Earlier sources: Biotechnology
This science thread follows biotechnology through original research, public projects, and source reports. Read the evidence below to see which developments are represented in SYMTRI’s archive.
SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.
Open in the map ↗237 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.
Earlier sources
Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Targeted genome recovery of under-sequenced microbes from the Sequence Read Archive STAT ↗
Most microbial species are represented by a single genome in public databases. The lack of genomes for these ‘singleton’ organisms limits our understanding of their pan-genome diversity and evolution. Although the Sequence Read Archive (SRA) contains millions of sequencing datasets that could be used to expand our understanding of many species, the extent to which under-represented microbial species are present at levels sufficient for genome recovery is unclear. Here, we show that the pre-computed taxonomic profiles generated by the National Center for Biotechnology Information SRA Taxonomy A…

DyME: An MD-based engine exploiting HTP mutagenesis for protein engineering and recognition mimicry ↗
Protein recognition mimicry is of great interest in the field of molecular bioengineering and rational design, with mutagenesis frequently employed to analyze the effects of altering amino acids involved in molecular recognition. The conformational and energetic effects of such alterations can be investigated in detail with the help of molecular dynamics (MD) methodologies. While existing MD-based computational tools can be used to explore a particular set of mutations at a time, suitable for small-scale studies, high-throughput (HTP) exploration of protein recognition for engineering purposes…

Role of calcineurin B homologous protein 3 in C2C12 myogenic differentiation ↗
Calcineurin B homologous protein 3 (CHP3), also known as tescalcin, has been implicated in the regulation of cardiomyocyte hypertrophy, but its function in skeletal muscle remains unclear. Here, we investigated the role of CHP3 in C2C12 myogenic differentiation. CHP3 expression was upregulated during the differentiation of mouse C2C12 myoblasts into myotubes. Genetic deletion of CHP3 impaired myogenic differentiation, as evidenced by reduced myogenin and myosin heavy chain (MHC) expression and myocyte fusion. These defects were accompanied by decreased phosphorylation of key signaling proteins…

Genome-wide structural variants uncover strain-specific genes and evolutionary genomic determinants of a fungal maize pathogen ↗
Genomic structural variants (SVs) are important sources of genetic diversity and contribute to the adaptation and evolution of plant-pathogenic fungi. Colletotrichum graminicola , the causal agent of maize ( Zea mays L.) anthracnose, causes significant yield losses and serves as an important model for genetic studies. To investigate genomic plasticity in this pathogen, long-read genome assemblies were generated for four C. graminicola field strains collected in France, Croatia, Brazil, and Argentina and compared with the chromosome-level reference genome from the USA. Comparative analyses reve

A genome-wide CRISPR knockout screen identifies host dependency factors and potential viral-induced cell death regulators for porcine deltacoronavirus infection ↗
Porcine deltacoronavirus (PDCoV) is a globally circulating coronavirus of swine that causes severe enteric disease and mortality in neonatal piglets. Its broad host range and zoonotic potential raises concerns about continued spillover into human populations. However, the host factors that govern PDCoV infection remain largely unexplored. Identifying host factors involved in virus infection may uncover novel therapeutic targets for antiviral drug development or targets for gene editing to create resistant pigs. Here, we conducted a genome-wide CRISPR knockout (GeCKO) screen to identify host fa

Genome-wide identification and annotation of genetic variants in captive white Bengal tigers in Bangladesh: a genomic resource for conservation genetics ↗
Abstract The integration of state-of-the-art molecular techniques with conventional breeding tools is essential for optimizing selection and breeding management in captive wildlife populations. Despite decades of research, a comprehensive catalogue of genetic variation in Bengal tigers ( Panthera tigris tigris ) in Bangladesh has been lacking, as most previous work has been descriptive. This study aimed to characterize the genome of captive white Bengal tigers to establish a catalogue of genetic variants as a resource for future studies of predatory traits, inbreeding depression, and genetic l

Comparative genome and protein analysis of Deinococcus radiodurans on heavy metal and radiation resistance ↗
Abstract D.radiodurans is robust bacteria that carry an extraordinary DNA repair system. The presence of multiple components distributed on the chromosomes and megaplasmid enables them to survive in a variety of environments under conditions of starvation, oxidative stress, and high amounts of DNA damage. Although recent developments in genes and genomic sequencing have significantly increased our knowledge of microbes, studies on the D. radiodurans R1 DSM 20539T using an integrated comparative genomics approach are scarce. So the study aims to analyze the genome and proteome of the D. radiodu

MARCO: The Radioactive Watermark for Protein Generative Models ↗
Protein Generative Models (PGMs) have revolutionized structural biology by enabling the design of complex 3D protein structures from sequence data. However, this breakthrough introduces a dual-use challenge, exposing high-value PGMs to economic risks like unauthorized model extraction and biosecurity threats such as biohazard synthesis. To mitigate these threats, we propose \textbf{MARCO} (\textsc{COnformation waterMARk}), the first radioactive watermarking framework specifically tailored for PGMs. MARCO establishes a Dual-Layer defense that simultaneously protects intellectual property and en…

Assembly of bispecific antibodies in culture supernatants using split intein-mediated protein trans-splicing ↗
Bispecific antibodies (bsAbs) are an important therapeutic modality because they can simultaneously engage two distinct antigens and thereby enable mechanisms such as immune cell redirection and enhanced target specificity. However, conventional bsAb generation requires iterative cloning, expression, and purification of individual antibody combinations, which limits scalability and throughput during early-stage discovery. Here, we developed a modular, supernatant-based in vitro bsAb assembly platform based on split intein-mediated protein trans-splicing, enabling generation of functional bsAbs…

Discovery of MYC/NSD3S Protein–Protein Interaction Negative Modulators with a Live Cell Nanoluciferase Protein-Fragment Complementation uHTS Assay ↗
Abstract Protein–protein interactions (PPIs) are central to physiological and pathophysiological processes. Identifying PPI modulators is the first step toward the development of new treatments. c-MYC (MYC), a key oncogene, interacts with NSD3S, stabilizing its structure and enhancing the oncogenic effect. In this work, we developed the NanoPCA assay in live cells in a 1536-well uHTS format to monitor the MYC/NSD3S PPI. We validated the platform by screening 12,000 compounds. The actions of several dose-dependent modulators were confirmed. Using orthogonal assays (immunoprecipitation, MYC repo…

How to assess evidence about Biotechnology
Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
