Earlier sources: Biotechnology
This science thread follows biotechnology through original research, public projects, and source reports. Read the evidence below to see which developments are represented in SYMTRI’s archive.
SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.
Open in the map ↗237 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.
Earlier sources
Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Complete mitochondrial genome of Arcuatula japonica (Mollusca: Mytilidae: Crenellinae) and its phylogenetic analysis ↗
Arcuatula japonica (Dunker, 1857) (Mollusca: Mytilidae: Crenellinae) is a marine mussel distributed primarily in the northwestern Pacific. To clarify its evolutionary position and evaluate the taxonomic status of Crenellinae, we sequenced and characterized the complete mitochondrial genome of A. japonica. The mitogenome is 16,198 bp in length and contains 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA genes (tRNAs), 2 ribosomal RNA genes (rRNAs), and 1 non-coding control region (CR), with an A + T bias (68.7%). Phylogenetic analysis based on 13 mitochondrial PCGs supports a sister relationshi…

Auxin-inducible degron-mediated protein depletion in Diplonema papillatum ↗
Background Diplonemids are highly abundant unicellular flagellates that are evolutionarily divergent from traditional model eukaryotes. Diplonema papillatum is a model diplonemid for which several molecular tools have recently been established. However, no method for conditional protein depletion was available. Methods Here, we have adapted an auxin-inducible degron (AID) system in D. papillatum. Results Depletion of the KIN-A motor protein (a glycomonad-specific component of the chromosomal passenger complex) causes defects in chromosome segregation and cell proliferation. The AID system also…

The genome sequence of the Yellow Meadow Ant, Lasius flavus (Fabricius, 1782) (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) ↗
We present a genome assembly from an individual female Lasius flavus (Yellow Meadow Ant; Arthropoda; Insecta; Hymenoptera; Formicidae). The assembly contains two haplotypes with total lengths of 314.61 megabases and 325.88 megabases. Most of haplotype 1 (95.46%) and haplotype 2 (92.16%) are each scaffolded into 15 chromosomal pseudomolecules. The mitochondrial genome has also been assembled, with a length of 21.36 kilobases. This assembly was generated as part of the Darwin Tree of Life project, which produces genomes for eukaryotic species found in Britain and Ireland.

Acquisition of novel arrays via horizontal gene transfer rewires CRISPR-mediated defense in Pseudomonas aeruginosa ↗
ABSTRACT Clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeat (CRISPR)-associated (Cas) systems form the adaptive immunity of prokaryotes, conferring sequence-specific protection against genetic parasites. Here, we functionally characterized the type I-F CRISPR-Cas system of Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 10145 (PA10145), which led us to discover the existence of an isolated CRISPR array unique to this system. Its core CRISPR-Cas system is composed of a cas operon flanked by two divergently organized arrays: CRISPR2 and CRISPR1. Meanwhile, the isolated CRISPR array, CRISPR3, was found ~1.3 mi…

Using Whole Genome Sequencing to Decipher the Metschnikowia pulcherrima Complex ↗
Metschnikowia pulcherrima, an ascomycetous yeast, has been frequently isolated from various substrates associated with agriculture such as nutrient-rich plant materials (fruit, fruit juices and fermenting grape must), soil and with various insects including fruit flies. Due to the growing consumer demand for wines with reduced levels of additives such as sulphites, there has been great interest in this yeast species for its ability to compete with other fungi. Despite having similar phenotypes, many species related to M. pulcherrima have been described in the last 20 years based on the sequenc…

Genetically engineered RNA inducers of proximity for protein regulation ↗
Current genetic engineering technology that based on complementary base pairing for target recognition is a powerful tool to control protein expression at DNA or RNA levels. Nonetheless, limited research has utilized genetic strategies to directly manipulate proteins. To address this gap, we have developed a method of genetically engineered RNA inducers of proximity (GENRIP), one strategy that leverages RNA structure-dependent protein recognition to precisely regulate protein activity. GENRIP is a modular and bifunctional RNA comprising two kinds of motifs: a conserved RNA motif that recruits…

Seq2DomML: Protein domain boundary prediction from bacterial protein sequences using a machine learning framework ↗
Abstract Purpose The identification of protein domain boundaries is important for designing stable single-domain constructs for protein structural solution. For proteins without experimentally determined structures, boundary selection often relies on conserved domain annotations, predicted structures, or iterative truncation screening. Seq2DomML is developed as a sequence-based machine learning framework for predicting residue-level domain partitions in bacterial proteins without requiring structural coordinates or homologous domain assignments as input. Methods Structural domain annotations f…

ERGA-BGE reference genome of the European bladdernut (Staphylea pinnata) ↗
We present a chromosome-level genome assembly for Staphylea pinnata L. (Crossosomatales: Staphyleaceae), commonly known as European bladdernut. The assembly spans 1.56 Gb and comprises 48 contigs assembled into 23 scaffolds. Thirteen chromosome-scale pseudomolecules were recovered, together with the mitochondrial and chloroplast genomes. The contig N50 is 71.16 Mb, and the scaffold N50 is 130.01 Mb. BUSCO analysis using the Eudicots odb10 dataset indicated 95.5% completeness, and the assembly had a Merqury quality value of 60.8. The genome annotation includes 25,870 protein-coding genes and 16…

Genome-wide association study of gestation length in German Holsteins ↗
Gestation length (GL) is important in seasonal calving systems and in the calving trait complex, because it affects traits such as stillbirth (SB) and calving ease. Utilizing imputed high-density genotypes from 34 497 German Holstein cows, this study aimed to identify genomic regions associated with GL. For this, a genome-wide association study (GWAS) was conducted, and the results were interpreted by searching for previously reported adjacent quantitative trait loci (QTLs). Four GL traits were analyzed: the direct calf effects on GL in first (GL_d1) and second (GL_d2) parity, along with the m…

DAF-16/FOXO maintains genome integrity following genotoxic stress ↗
Preserving genomic integrity is crucial for the accurate transmission of genetic information across generations, as well as for preventing precocious ageing. The DNA Damage Response (DDR) safeguards the genome from genotoxic stress through a coordinated system of sensors, relay proteins, and repair mechanisms. Since DNA repair is an energy-intensive activity, the process is tightly regulated and coordinated with various metabolic pathways. The nutrient-sensing insulin/IGF signalling (IIS) pathway has been extensively studied for its role in ageing and lifespan regulation in C. elegans through…

How to assess evidence about Biotechnology
Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
