Earlier sources: Biotechnology

This science thread follows biotechnology through original research, public projects, and source reports. Read the evidence below to see which developments are represented in SYMTRI’s archive.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

232 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Structural basis of stepwise G protein activation by the viral chemokine receptor US28 ↗

Abstract G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) govern diverse cellular responses and are crucial drug targets. However, the sequence of structural events from G protein recognition to GDP release has remained elusive. Here, we leveraged the viral chemokine GPCR US28 to capture multiple activation states of the US28-G q complex. Using cryo-electron microscopy and an engineered chemokine superagonist, we determined three distinct complex structures, capturing a GDP-bound Encounter state, the nucleotide-free Canonical state, and a putative intermediate bridging the two states, the Transition-to-Can…

Genome-wide-scale prediction of compound-protein interactions using foundation and language models based on three-dimensional structures of compounds and proteins. ↗

Motivation The identification of compound-protein interactions (CPIs) is crucial in the early stages of drug discovery. However, machine-learning (ML)-based methods based on one- and two-dimensional representations cannot capture important geometric information on the binding sites of CPIs, which limits their predictive accuracy. Results We propose DESTIN (dual structure-guided estimation of substance-target interaction networks), an ML framework for CPI prediction on a genome-wide scale from the three-dimensional (3D) structures of compounds and proteins. We constructed compound feature vecto

A semi-automated genetic screen using genome-wide association analysis identifies modulators of stress-induced sleep in Caenorhabditis elegans. ↗

Animals sleep more when they are sick. In C. elegans, stress-induced sleep (SIS) follows cellular injury such as exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light. The genetic regulators of SIS remain incompletely defined. Using robotic automation, high-throughput imaging, and genome-wide association analysis, we performed a semi-automated screen of 940 whole-genome sequenced Million Mutation Project (MMP) strains. We quantified behavioral activity and quiescence before and after ultraviolet (UV) radiation. We applied the Sequence Kernel Association Test (SKAT) to this behavioral data to prioritize a set of

The Mechanism of Whey Protein Hydrolysates with Oral Immunotolerance ↗

To investigate the mechanism of oral immune tolerance induced by whey protein hydrolysates, this study utilized five industrially used proteases to hydrolyze whey protein and prepared the hydrolysates. An oral immune tolerance model was established using Balb/c mice. The levels of specific IgG, IgE, and histamine in the serum of mice from the five hydrolysate-preventive groups were measured. The expression levels of genes and proteins associated with the MAPK signaling pathway in small intestinal mast cells were analyzed using qPCR and Western blot. The results demonstrated that the expression…

Amaranth ( Amaranthus hypochondriacus ) seed protein hydrolysate with optimized hydrolysis degree in Nile tilapia ( Oreochromis niloticus ) diets: effects on antinutritional factors and in vivo digestibility ↗

This study evaluated the effect of optimized protein hydrolysate from amaranth ( A. hypochondriacus ) seeds on antinutritional factors and apparent digestibility in Nile tilapia diets. The hydrolysate was produced using Alcalase® 2.4 L (pH 8, 55 °C, 1:10 w/v), achieving an optimal degree of hydrolysis of 79.79% at 150 min (defined as the shortest time to reach the hydrolysis plateau). Three isonitrogenous diets were formulated: a reference diet (RD) and two experimental diets replacing 30% of fishmeal with raw amaranth meal (RAM) and hydrolyzed amaranth meal (HAM). Trials were conducted in tri…

Developing Metal–Polyphenol Network‐Based Single‐Protein Particle Encapsulation System for Sustained Release of Whey Protein to Mitigate Sarcopenia ↗

ABSTRACT Sarcopenia has emerged as a major health challenge in the aging population. Whey protein (WP)—rich in branched‐chain amino acids—is an important nutritional supplement for mitigating sarcopenia. However, the rapid digestion of WP limits its therapeutic efficacy. Developing a sustained‐release system for WP may enhance its effectiveness in mitigating sarcopenia. Herein, a novel “single‐protein particle encapsulation” (SPPE) system is developed to protect WP and control its release. Specifically, the “molecular glue” metal–polyphenol networks (MPNs) are assembled onto the surface of ind…

In Situ detection of protein-phosphoinositide signalosome in tissues by immunohistochemistry-coupled proximity ligation assay ↗

Abstract Phosphoinositides (PIPs) are central lipid signaling molecules, with PtdIns(3,4,5)P 3 acting as a key regulator of the PI3K-AKT pathway and a major driver of tumorigenesis. Together with p53 mutations or loss, this pathway represents one of the most frequently dysregulated axes across human cancers. We recently identified a nuclear p53-PtdIns(3,4,5)P 3 signalosome that enables de novo AKT activation, promoting cancer cell survival, invasion, and chemoresistance, with potential biological and clinical relevance. However, in situ detection of such protein-lipid signalosome in tissues ha…

CRISPR-based gene drive systems alter the transcriptome in Anopheles gambiae mosquitoes ↗

CRISPR-based gene drive systems have emerged as promising strategies for mosquito population control to reduce the impact of vector-borne diseases such as malaria. However, their broader molecular impact on the mosquito transcriptome remains poorly understood. We performed an RNA sequencing analysis of Anopheles gambiae gene drive (GD) mosquitoes under three conditions: males fed with sugar, females fed with sugar, and females fed with blood. Principal component analyses identified sex and diet as the major drivers of transcriptomic variation, although differential expression analyses identifi…

How to assess evidence about Biotechnology

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
