Earlier sources: Biotechnology
This science thread follows biotechnology through original research, public projects, and source reports. Read the evidence below to see which developments are represented in SYMTRI’s archive.
SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.
Open in the map ↗235 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.
Earlier sources
Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Ubiquitin Proteasome System BTB-Adaptor Protein Insomniac Modifies Seizure Severity and Response to the Ketogenic Diet in a Drosophila Model of Mitochondrial Encephalomyopathy ↗
Background/Objectives: The ubiquitin proteasome system (UPS) serves critical cellular homeostatic functions that contribute to neurological health, including neuronal metabolism, synaptic plasticity, and the molecular circadian clock. The UPS is tightly regulated to ensure the correct balance of healthy proteins and those targeted for degradation and recycling; malfunction in this quality control process can contribute to disease states such as neurodegeneration and cancer. Target specificity in this system is due in part to ubiquitin ligase adaptor proteins, such as those of the BTB superfami…

The complete mitochondrial genome of Liara ( Liara ) longispina (Orthoptera: Tettigonidae: Conocephalinae) ↗
ABSTRACT The complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of Liara ( Liara ) longispina Zhang, Lu, & Bian (2022) was sequenced and annotated from Guangxi, China. The circular double-stranded mitogenome has a size of 16,402 bp and contains 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA genes (tRNAs), 2 ribosomal RNA genes (rRNAs), and a control region (CR/D-loop).

Nonlinear Dose–Response Association Between Exercise Intensity and Urinary Liver-Type Fatty Acid-Binding Protein in Young Men: A Piecewise Threshold Analysis ↗
High-intensity physical exercise can induce temporary renal hemodynamic strain and subclinical tubular injury, yet the exact dose–response relationship remains poorly defined. This study investigated the relationship between exercise intensity and urinary liver-type fatty acid-binding protein (L-FABP) concentrations, a sensitive marker of proximal tubular stress, to identify an exploratory intensity threshold. We conducted an observational cohort study of 285 healthy young men undergoing a routine 20 min physical training session. Exercise intensity was quantified as metabolic equivalents of t…

Targeted Control of Protein O-GlcNAcylation in Living Cells ↗
Abstract O-linked N-acetylglucosamine glycosylation (O-GlcNAcylation) regulates many intracellular proteins, but linking a cellular phenotype to O-GlcNAcylation of a specific substrate remains difficult. Global perturbation of O-GlcNAc transferase (OGT) or O-GlcNAcase (OGA) changes many proteins at once and therefore provides limited information about individual substrates. Protein-selective approaches address this problem by directing OGT or OGA activity toward chosen proteins in living cells. Here, we review small-molecule recruiters, nanobody-based systems, inducible recruitment strategies,…

Genome-Wide Characterization of the Wheat Pum Gene Family and Heterologous Functional Analysis of TaPum-III-5b in Arabidopsis Under Salt Stress ↗
Pumilio (Pum)-family proteins are evolutionarily conserved RNA-binding proteins that regulate post-transcriptional processes; however, their specific functions in staple crops, for example, wheat (Triticum aestivum), remain poorly understood. We identified 56 TaPum genes and classified them into three phylogenetic subgroups (I–III). The larger TaPum family size in allohexaploid wheat was associated with retention of A-, B-, and D-subgenome homoeologs, segmental duplication, and tandem duplication. After separating homoeologous pairs, 17 segmental duplication pairs and five tandem duplication p…

Developing a 4-Helix Bundle Protein Engineering Platform for Isolating Rare-Earth Elements ↗
Abstract Rare-earth elements (REEs) are crucial for sustainable industrial processes, but current extraction methods are environmentally damaging. Our research explores using proteins that bind REEs as a potentially eco-friendly alternative for purification. Lanmodulin (LanM) is a natural protein known for its extremely strong (picomolar) affinity for REEs. However, LanM’s disordered structure makes it challenging for engineering. To overcome this, we developed a protein engineering platform based on the stable 4-Helix Bundle (4HB) framework, which has 3 helix-loop-helix regions. We incorporat…

Characterization of the complete mitochondrial genome of Hierococcyx sparverioides and phylogenetic implications ↗
The species Hierococcyx sparverioides belongs to the order Cuculiformes, family Cuculidae. We present the first complete mitochondrial genome of H. sparverioides (17,264 bp; GenBank PX733929), comprising 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNAs, 2 rRNAs, and a control region, with a structure similar to other Cuculidae. We conducted mitogenome assembly verification, selective pressure and codon usage (RSCU) analyses, tRNA secondary structure predictions, and phylogenetic reconstruction. This study provides novel mitogenome data contributing to understanding of the evolution and phylogenetic relations…

How to assess evidence about Biotechnology
Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
