THE INTERNET IS THINKING

Earlier sources: Science

Science investigates the natural world through observation, experiments, and mathematical models. Explore papers and developments in biology, medicine, materials, neuroscience, physics, climate, and mathematics; a reported finding is not necessarily established consensus.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

1308 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Preservation of photon statistics upon selective molecular modulation in hollow-core fibers ↗

Preserving the underlying statistical properties of light during frequency transduction is essential for interfacing spectrally disparate quantum systems. To do this successfully, the process needs to be highly efficient, broadband and noiseless. Despite significant progress in this field, satisfying all these conditions remains challenging. Recently, molecular modulation-based transduction in hollow-core fibers has emerged as a promising approach, where biphoton correlations were proven to be preserved during frequency up-conversion. However, beyond this previous demonstration of correlation-…

Generative modelling for multivariate spatio-temporal downscaling of monthly climate fields ↗

Inferring climate fields at higher spatio-temporal resolutions from coarse representations is essential for accessing socioeconomic and environmental impacts. The downscaling of modelled climate fields faces a trade-off between data storage constraints, simulation efficiency, and resolution requirements. While many methods for spatial downscaling have been proposed, joint spatio-temporal downscaling has received comparable little attention. When deriving, for example, daily fields from climate datasets that are available only as monthly averages at coarser spatial resolution, it is highly chal…

Unmasking Compensating Errors in Numerical Weather Models: A Process-Additive Neural Network Approach ↗

This work introduces a Process Additive Neural Network (PANN) framework to disentangle compensating biases in atmospheric models, where errors in different physical processes can offset each other and obscure their origins. Using a single-column model, each PANN branch represents the tendency error associated with a separate physical process, and the summed branch outputs approximate the total error relative to a reference tendency. Once trained successfully, the branch outputs are expected to provide process-level error attributions and, when averaged, estimates of process-level bias. Initial…

Physical Processes Driving Year-to-Year Surface Temperature Variability Changes in a Warming Climate ↗

Under anthropogenic greenhouse forcing, climate models project a decrease in year-to-year temperature variability in the mid-to-high latitudes and an increase in the tropics and subtropics. Here, we examine year-to-year temperature variability in the CESM Large Ensemble in concert with an idealized stochastic moist energy balance model (SMEBM) with effective surface heat capacity and local feedback parameter specified based on CESM. We find that the zonal-mean CESM variability change pattern largely persists after filtering out the impact of El Niño. The SMEBM largely captures this change patt…

DNA Barcoding Validation of Medicinal Ipomoea Species from the Morning Glory Family ↗

The growing consumption of herbal products has been accompanied by a concerning increase in the use of adulterants during production, which could affect the quality of traditional herbal medicine. DNA barcoding is a powerful method for accurately identifying plants at various taxonomic levels, and for authenticating medicinal plants. In this study, the DNA barcoding regions rbcL and ITS were used to corroborate the botanical classification of commercial seeds from five Ipomoea species and one hybrid, all commonly used as herbal medicines and widely cultivated as ornamentals. These comprised Ip…

TNFAIP3 suppresses lactylation-associated DNA damage repair and enhances chemosensitivity in ovarian cancer ↗

Abstract Background Ovarian cancer (OC) remains one of the most lethal gynecologic malignancies due to extensive metabolic plasticity and rapid development of platinum resistance. Lactylation, a lactate-derived post-translational modification, has emerged as a critical regulator linking tumor metabolism to cellular signaling. However, its role in OC remains poorly understood. Methods We integrated bulk transcriptomic analysis, single-cell RNA sequencing, machine-learning, clinical validation and functional experiments to characterize lactylation-associated programs in OC. TNFAIP3 expression an…

A protective hybrid protein vaccine informed by mapping major histocompatibility class II epitopes in Cryptococcus neoformans chitin deacetylases that stimulate CD4 + T-cell responses ↗

ABSTRACT Infections due to Cryptococcus species are estimated to cause over 100,000 deaths a year. No cryptococcal vaccines are approved for human use. We have shown that vaccine formulations consisting of C. neoformans chitin deacetylase 2 (Cda2) and Cda1 adjuvanted with Cationic Adjuvant Formulation 01 (CAF01) protect mice against experimental cryptococcosis by a mechanism dependent upon CD4 + T cells. Here, using overlapping peptide libraries, we mapped epitopes in Cda2 and Cda1 that stimulated interferon-gamma (IFNγ) release from splenocytes of C57BL/6 and DR4 mice immunized with these pro…

Characterization and phylogenetic analysis of the complete mitochondrial genome of Gomphus clavatus (pers.) Gray, 1821 ↗

The mitochondrial genome of G. clavatus was sequenced, assembled, and annotated in this study. The complete mitochondrial genome is a circular molecule of 85,207 bp, with a GC content of 28.50%. The overall nucleotide composition is asymmetric, with A (35.30%) and T (36.21%) being more prevalent than G (14.81%) and C (13.69%). It encodes a total of 62 genes, including 15 core protein-coding genes (PCGs), 2 rRNA genes (rns and rnl), 25 tRNA genes, 19 intron-encoded open reading frames (ORFs), and 1 free-standing ORF. A total of 16 introns were identified within the genome. A phylogenetic tree w…

Primer exchange reaction transcribed DNAzyme catalyzed DNA walker for sensitive cerebral infarction-related microRNA analysis by coupling plasma mass spectrometry ↗

Abstract Cerebral infarction remains a leading cause of long-term disability and mortality, necessitating sensitive and reliable methods for early diagnosis. Herein, we develop a novel biosensing platform based on a primer exchange reaction (PER)-transcribed DNAzyme-catalyzed DNA walker coupled with inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) for the detection of cerebral infarction-related microRNA-124. The target miRNA triggers split DNAzyme assembly, which cleaves a dumbbell-structured tracker to release a PER template. The PER process generates numerous DNAzyme strands that cycli…

How to assess evidence about Science

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
