THE INTERNET IS THINKING

Earlier sources: Science

Science investigates the natural world through observation, experiments, and mathematical models. Explore papers and developments in biology, medicine, materials, neuroscience, physics, climate, and mathematics; a reported finding is not necessarily established consensus.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

1303 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Alternative splicing fine-tunes modular protein interfaces to control protein localization ↗

Alternative splicing provides a pervasive means to expand proteome complexity, yet how it reorganizes protein interactions and cellular localization remains unclear. Here, we show that tissue-regulated longer exons preferably reshape local interaction patterns, whereas microexons fine-tune key interfaces linking distinct cellular processes. Integration of subcellular localization data further indicates that such rewiring can redistribute proteins within cells. By using a high-content imaging approach to systematically evaluate the influence of individual exons on protein localization, we show…

Draft genome sequences of five Escherichia coli strains with human pathogenic attributes from animal reservoirs in the United States ↗

ABSTRACT Both humans and animals harbor commensal Escherichia coli or potentially pathogenic and drug-resistant strains that can cause severe infections. Here, we report draft genomes of five multidrug-resistant E. coli isolates from raccoon, mouse, and cattle in the USA, revealing antimicrobial resistance, virulence-associated genes, and plasmid-associated determinants relevant to One Health.

DNA-Encoded Binding Affinity Shapes Robust CTCF Occupancy Across Cellular Contexts ↗

CCCTC-binding factor (CTCF) is an architectural protein that organizes 3D genome architecture by binding to tens of thousands of genomic loci in a typical human cell type. Although DNA-binding affinity contributes to CTCF occupancy in vivo, the principles distinguishing robust from context-dependent occupancy remain incompletely understood. Here, we integrated quantitative measurements of CTCF-DNA binding affinity with genome-wide occupancy profiles. Using synthetic tandem arrays of CTCF sites with defined affinity levels, we experimentally tested whether DNA-encoded affinity establishes a pre…

Physics-Guided and Horizon-Aware Dynamic Liquid-Level Identification and Forecasting in Oil Wells Using Distributed Temperature Sensing ↗

Accurate dynamic liquid-level monitoring in rod-pumped oil wells requires not only reliable identification of the gas–liquid interface from distributed sensing data but also stable forecasting over extended horizons. This study develops a physics-guided and horizon-aware PatchTST framework (PGH-PatchTST) for dynamic liquid-level identification and forecasting based on distributed temperature sensing (DTS). The measured time–depth–temperature field is reconstructed and denoised, and the gas–liquid interface is localized using the maximum absolute spatial temperature gradient. Unlike the previou…

Physics-consistent alignment and discrepancy learning for multi-fidelity prediction of train collision load ↗

Train collision accidents may lead to severe casualties and substantial property losses, making crashworthiness analysis essential for improving train passive safety. However, the high computational cost of high-fidelity numerical simulations limits their direct application to large-scale parameter analysis and optimization. To address this challenge, this study proposes a bias-correction surrogate network (BCS-Net) for multi-fidelity prediction of train collision loads under limited high-fidelity data. The proposed framework performs a physically consistent alignment of force-displacement res…

Genome report: sequencing of Helicoverpa- infecting Ophryocystis sp. confirms cryptic diversity and changes in gene content of Lepidoptera-infecting apicomplexan parasites ↗

Abstract Apicomplexan parasites of insects represent a largely unexplored branch of the tree of life. Their small size and lack of informative phenotypic traits can obscure their diversity and many lineage-specific adaptations to different host species. To better understand how these parasites have evolved, we have sequenced and annotated the genome of a neogregarine parasite of moths in the family Noctuidae, including Helicoverpa armigera. This parasite, which we term Helicoverpa-infecting Ophryocystis, has a tiny 8 Megabase genome with only 2,500 predicted protein-coding genes. Using phyloge…

Hsp90 as a master regulator in autoimmunity: from cellular stress to clinical opportunity ↗

Heat shock protein 90 (Hsp90) is a ubiquitous molecular chaperone that governs the folding, stabilization and activity of a wide range of client proteins, many of which are critical regulators of immune cell signalling and inflammatory responses. Recent research has underscored the role of Hsp90 in orchestrating both innate and adaptive immune functions, particularly in the context of autoimmune diseases. In autoimmune diseases, dysregulated immune pathways often involve Hsp90-dependent client proteins, including key kinases and transcription factors. By modulating the activation, differentiat…

Efficient routing and spectrum allocation in arbitrary flex-grid entanglement networks ↗

As practical quantum networks approach large-scale deployment, the need for efficient user-to-user frequency allocation is increasing, yet current approaches only provide partial solutions to the routing and spectrum allocation problem for an arbitrary quantum network. We address this challenge for repeater-less flex-grid quantum networks based on hyperentangled photons using an efficient three-stage pipeline combining leading tools in classical networking with recent advances in numerical optimization. First, double instantiations of Yen's algorithm obtain low-loss route candidates between ea…

Sampling Weights at Intermediate Temperatures is Optimal for Training Large Language Protein Models ↗

Using a statistical mechanics framework, we investigate the parameter space of transformer models trained on protein sequence data. We sample the loss landscape at varying temperatures using Langevin dynamics to characterize the low-loss manifold and to understand the mechanisms underlying transformers’ superior performance in protein structure prediction. We find that, at variance with networks not based on the attention mechanism, the lack of a first-order-like transition in the loss of the transformer produces a range of intermediate temperatures with good learning properties; this is true…

Low-resource quantum energy gap estimation via randomization ↗

Estimating the energy spectra of quantum many-body systems is a fundamental task in quantum physics, with applications ranging from chemistry to condensed matter. Algorithmic shadow spectroscopy is a recent method that leverages randomized measurements on time-evolved quantum states to extract spectral information. However, implementing accurate time evolution with low-depth circuits remains a key challenge for near-term quantum hardware. In this work, we propose a hybrid quantum-classical protocol that integrates Time Evolution via Probabilistic Angle Interpolation (TE-PAI) into the shadow sp…

How to assess evidence about Science

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
