Earlier sources: Science

Science investigates the natural world through observation, experiments, and mathematical models. Explore papers and developments in biology, medicine, materials, neuroscience, physics, climate, and mathematics; a reported finding is not necessarily established consensus.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

1330 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Genome-wide association study and genomic selection reveal the genetic architecture of glycogen content in autotetraploid Crassostrea gigas ↗

Autotetraploid Crassostrea gigas is an economically important marine mollusk that has attracted considerable attention because of its ability to stably produce triploid C. gigas . Glycogen content is a key nutritional trait affecting the flavor and quality of C. gigas , and improving this trait has become an important breeding and commercial objective. In this study, we conducted genome-wide association study (GWAS) and genomic selection (GS) analyses of glycogen content in autotetraploid C. gigas for the first time. A total of four significant SNPs and 18 suggestive SNPs were identified, and…

Photo-Activatable RNA Switches for Optical Control of Cell-Free Protein Synthesis ↗

Abstract Programmable RNA switches enable target-dependent regulation of cell-free protein synthesis. Here, we report a photo-activatable RNA switch using photocleavable Lock DNA (pcl-Lock) to enable optical control of in vitro translation. Synthesized by solid-phase methods, pcl-Lock incorporates a coumarin-based photocleavable linker that maintains the RNA switch in an inactive state. Irradiation with 456 nm light cleaves the linker, releasing inhibition and activating translation. Light-triggered activation produced β-galactosidase, yielding approximately 4-fold and 30-fold increases in flu…

Design and in silico evaluation of PV-GNProtecta: an mRNA multi-epitope vaccine candidate against Puumala virus using immunoinformatics and structural analysis ↗

Abstract Puumala virus (PUUV), the principal causative agent of nephropathia epidemica (NE), poses a significant public health threat due to its zoonotic transmission, renal complications, and the lack of an approved vaccine. In this study, an immunoinformatics-driven mRNA multi-epitope vaccine, PV-GNProtecta, was designed using conserved regions of the viral glycoprotein (G) and nucleoprotein (N). Highly antigenic, non-allergenic, and non-toxic T-cell and B-cell epitopes were identified and assembled with appropriate adjuvants to enhance immunogenicity. Population coverage analysis suggested…

Safety evaluation of new energy three-electric systems using enhanced physics-informed neural networks ↗

Accurate safety-state measurement of the three-electric system in new energy vehicles is essential for ensuring reliable and secure operation. This paper proposes an artificial-intelligence-assisted safety measurement framework that integrates a searchable encryption mechanism with Enhanced Physics-Informed Neural Networks (EPINNs). In the proposed framework, the searchable encryption module supports privacy-preserving storage and retrieval of multi-source measurement data, while EPINNs serve as the core Artificial Intelligence (AI) model for multi-parameter state estimation and fault identifi…

A case report of nephronophthisis type 1 (NPHP1) complicated with tethered cord in a pediatric patient: clinical phenotype and rapid progression to end stage renal disease ↗

Nephronophthisis (NPHP) is an autosomal recessive cystic kidney disease and a leading cause of pediatric end stage renal disease (ESRD). Tethered cord is one of the important causes of neurogenic bladder in children, and the latter is a risk factor for secondary chronic kidney disease (CKD). The co-occurrence of nephronophthisis type 1 (NPHP1) and tethered cord has never been reported previously. Here, we present a rare case of a 7-year-old girl diagnosed with NPHP1 complicated with tethered cord. The patient was admitted for incidentally identified renal dysfunction (serum creatinine 101.7 µm…

Epistatic redundancy reconciles pervasive genetic interactions with their rarity in genome-wide analyses ↗

Epistasis, the genetic interaction between loci, has long been recognized as a fundamental feature of the genetic architecture, but its importance remains controversial. This controversy stems partly from the apparent disconnect between abundant physiological epistasis observed in laboratory settings and the rarity of detectable epistatic interactions in genome-wide association studies (GWAS). Here, I introduce the concept of epistatic redundancy, whereby a focal locus interacts with multiple alternative loci rather than a single partner. Using population genetic simulations, I demonstrate tha…

Enhanced electrochemically-directed oligonucleotide synthesis via porous silica thin-film for DNA data storage ↗

DNA-based data storage has emerged as a promising alternative for long-term information archiving and its implementation accelerates the development for on-chip large scale oligonucleotide synthesis. Among various technological routes, electrochemically directed synthesis offers exceptional synthesis-site density thanks to its compatibility with semiconductor microfabrication processes. Yet increasing density typically comes at the expense of reduced per-site oligonucleotide yield, compromising the practical utility of these synthesis platforms for reliable data recovery. Here we report a poro…

ARID1B promotes DNA end resection via MDC1 and co-transactivation of DNA repair genes with c-MYC in small cell lung cancer ↗

Abstract AT-rich interactive domain-containing protein 1B (ARID1B) has been implicated in DNA damage repair; however, its precise molecular mechanisms and contributions to small cell lung cancer (SCLC) pathogenesis remain incompletely defined. In this study, analysis of clinical datasets revealed that ARID1B is significantly overexpressed in SCLC tissues and cell lines compared to normal lung tissues or lung adenocarcinoma counterparts. Functional studies in vitro and in vivo demonstrated that ARID1B depletion markedly impairs SCLC cell proliferation, clonogenicity, and tumor growth while acce…

Construction of personal health knowledge graphs for clinical data harmonization in breast cancer ↗

Integrating heterogeneous personal health data and maintaining clinical registries for breast cancer management is labor-intensive. This study presents an AI-powered virtual assistant transforming identifiable breast cancer patient data into interoperable personal health knowledge graphs for secondary use. The first-generation prototype was deployed across three hospitals to extract and ingest patient data under informed consent, mapped to ontology-compliant knowledge graphs, with SHACL-based structural validation and human-in-the-loop review. Curated data covered demographics, diagnosis, path…

Retinoid biology from embryonic patterning to adult tissue homeostasis: metabolism, RAR signaling, disease mechanisms, and clinical translation ↗

Vitamin A gives rise to functionally distinct retinoids that regulate vision, embryonic patterning, and adult tissue homeostasis. The principal endogenous transcriptional ligand, all-trans-retinoic acid (ATRA), activates RARα, RARβ, and RARγ within RAR-RXR heterodimers; this mechanism is distinct from direct RXR activation by synthetic rexinoids. Tissue retinoic acid homeostasis is maintained through tightly coordinated regulation of vitamin A absorption, storage, transport, intracellular metabolism, and degradation. We integrate these pathways across embryonic development and adult physiology…

How to assess evidence about Science

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
