Earlier sources: Science

Science investigates the natural world through observation, experiments, and mathematical models. Explore papers and developments in biology, medicine, materials, neuroscience, physics, climate, and mathematics; a reported finding is not necessarily established consensus.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

1348 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

A novel hybrid prediction approach for critical buckling strain of dented subsea pipelines coupling symbol regression and physics-informed neural networks ↗

This study proposes a novel hybrid approach to predict the critical buckling strain (CBS) of dented subsea pipelines by coupling symbolic regression (SR) with physics-informed neural networks (PINNs). A 3D finite element model was developed to simulate pressurization, indentation, and longitudinal bending, alongside an improved far-field average strain method to stably capture CBS. Parametric analyses generated a database, enabling the development of an explicit, interpretable CBS prediction equation (R 2 = 0.968) via a Genetic Programming (GP-SR) algorithm. This equation was subsequently embe…

Genome-wide association analyses reveal genetic loci associated with cold responses in Miscanthus under non-acclimated and cold-acclimated conditions ↗

Miscanthus species are C4 perennial bioenergy crops with broad environmental adaptability, yet episodic freezing events can constrain establishment and productivity. We evaluated cold-response variation in a 144-accession panel comprising 73 M. sacchariflorus and 71 M. lutarioriparius accessions under non-acclimated and cold-acclimated conditions. LT50 was recalculated from the original mean relative electrical conductivity (REC) data using y = 100/[1 + a exp(bx)] and LT50 = -ln(a)/b; fits were retained when R² >= 0.80 and LT50 fell within the experimental range (-16 to 0 °C). Additional genot…

Biosynthetic DNA origami nanostructures: harnessing E. coli-phage systems as nanofactories ↗

DNA origami nanostructures (DONs) serve as versatile nanocarriers with promising application potential, but high production cost and low yield limit their development. The biosynthetic approach based on the Escherichia coli ( E. coli )-phage system offers an effective route for the low-cost, scalable fabrication of DONs. This approach relies on the biosynthetic production of single-stranded DNA via in vivo rolling circle replication, offering advantages of nucleic acid sequence fidelity and length scalability. This review summarizes recent advances in the biosynthesis of DONs using the E. coli…

Comparing Quantum and Classical Finite State Generators ↗

Bell-CHSH-like inequalities have been very successful in benchmarking spatial quantum correlations. However, as this paper illustrates, they are not necessarily sufficient for benchmarking temporal quantum correlations. To illustrate this, we parametrise classical and quantum stochastic finite state generators based on a single bit and a single qubit, respectively, and compare the temporal correlations of their output sequences using a Bell–CHSH-like inequality. We find that for sequential measurements by two observers, classical machines can exceed the Tsirelson bound of 22. To present at lea…

Mutual Transformations of Arbitrary Ternary Qubit Trees by Clifford Gates ↗

It is shown that ternary qubit trees with the same number of nodes can be transformed by the naturally defined sequence of Clifford gates into each other or into standard representation as 1-dimensional chain corresponding to Jordan–Wigner transform. Quanta 2026; 15: 24–30.

A unified framework for quantitative splicing and transcript prediction ↗

RNA splicing is frequently disrupted by genetic variation, contributing to a wide range of human diseases. Identifying the variants responsible for altered splicing is therefore crucial but has long been challenging. Deep learning models that predict splicing from genomic sequence have substantially advanced their detection, but accurately resolving their quantitative effects on splicing and the resulting transcripts remains an unmet need. Here we introduce SpliceAI2, a deep learning model trained end-to-end on splice site, splice junction, and transcript usage across multiple mammalian specie

Gene functional-state covariance reveals modular structure in the Arabidopsis thaliana dispensable genome ↗

Classical multilocus theory predicts that selection acting on combinations of loci can maintain non-random associations among allelic states, causing selection to act on multilocus genotypes rather than individual alleles. Across eukaryotic species, pangenome studies have documented thousands of genes that vary in functional status between individuals, yet this variation is analyzed as if each gene evolves independently. Here we test for non-random association within the dispensable pangenome across 1,012 natural genotypes of Arabidopsis thaliana to better understand the structure and evolutio

Gene-environment interaction loci with signatures of mid- to late Holocene selection show evidence for diet‑dependent genetic effects ↗

Environmental change is a major driver of adaptation, yet most evolutionary studies assume that genetic effects remain constant across environments. Recent biobank-scale studies have identified widespread gene-environment interactions (GxE), but their contribution to recent human evolution remains unclear. Here, we combined genome-wide GxE maps with allele-frequency trajectories spanning the last ~10,000 years to test whether environmentally responsive variants contributed to recent human adaptation. Among 45 independent loci, three showed significant signatures of directional selection. These

Inferring ecDNA Evolution from Allele Frequency Spectra ↗

Extrachromosomal DNA (ecDNA) can arise early in the development of aggressive tumors or later upon progression, but the impact of chronology on patient outcome is not known. Currently, it is not possible to determine when an ecDNA arose in the course of tumor development and progression, based on genome sequencing data. Here, we develop an analytic method, ecEvol, to infer ecDNA emergence time, selection strength, mutation rate, and clonal dominance from allele frequency spectra in bulk whole-genome sequencing. EcEvol outperforms other methods and predicts parameters with high accuracy across

Disrupted chromatin architecture blocks B lymphopoiesis in Down syndrome ↗

Human fetal haematopoiesis requires developmental potential to be encoded before lineage identity becomes transcriptionally apparent, but whether three-dimensional genome architecture provides such information is unknown. Here we develop ChromE-seq, a scalable single-cell assay that jointly profiles chromatin conformation and transcription, and integrate it with chromatin accessibility and DNA methylation to generate a multimodal atlas of ~400,000 haematopoietic cells from disomic and trisomy 21 (T21) human fetal liver. Chromatin contacts frequently preceded lineage-specific transcription or p

How to assess evidence about Science

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
