THE INTERNET IS THINKING

Earlier sources: Science

Science investigates the natural world through observation, experiments, and mathematical models. Explore papers and developments in biology, medicine, materials, neuroscience, physics, climate, and mathematics; a reported finding is not necessarily established consensus.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

1329 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

The genome sequence of White Butterbur, Petasites albus (L. Gaertn., 1791) (Asterales: Asteraceae) ↗

We present a genome assembly of Petasites albus (White Butterbur; Streptophyta; Magnoliopsida; Asterales; Asteraceae). The assembly consists of two haplotypes with total lengths of 2,845.89 megabases and 2,738.22 megabases. Most of the haplotype 1 assembly (94.48%) was scaffolded into 30 chromosomal pseudomolecules. Haplotype 2 was assembled to scaffold level. The mitochondrial sequences have lengths of 107.61, 154.81 and 46.65 kilobases and the plastid genome assembly has a length of 150.69 kilobases. Gene annotation of this assembly by Ensembl identified 43,211 protein-coding genes. This ass

The genome sequence of Heath Groundsel,Senecio sylvaticus L., 1753 (Asterales: Asteraceae) ↗

We present a genome assembly from a tetraploid specimen of Senecio sylvaticus (Heath Groundsel; Streptophyta; Magnoliopsida; Asterales; Asteraceae). The assembly consists of two haplotypes with total lengths of 1,815.56 megabases and 1,770.53 megabases. Haplotypes 1 and 2 each contain 20 chromosomal pseudomolecules; these account for 99.19% and 99.4% of their respective sequences. The mitochondrial genome assembly has a length of 270.09 kilobases and the plastid genome assembly has a length of 151.1 kilobases. Gene annotation of this assembly by Ensembl identified 59,358 protein-coding genes.

A New Degree of Freedom in Stellarator Coil Design ↗

Reversed toroidal field (RTF) coils introduce a new degree of freedom in stellarator coil design. While the total plasma-linked current is fixed by Ampere's law, compensating RTF currents allow the modular-coil current to exceed this value without altering the net linkage. This redistribution decouples key coil constraints and modifies the external coil geometry without significantly compromising the confining magnetic field. As a result, the achievable coil-plasma separation can be increased in the configurations studied, potentially enabling more compact stellarator designs.

An entangling Hubbard quasiparticle collider on a digital quantum processor ↗

Scattering of quasiparticles provides direct access to the interactions that govern strongly correlated systems. In this work, we realize the quasiparticle scattering experiment of the Fermi-Hubbard model on a digital quantum processor by colliding a doublon and a holon in the half-filled chain of 21 sites encoded on 42 qubits of the ibm_boston processor. For the first time, we measure the transmission probability of quasiparticles of the Hubbard model on quantum hardware, which agrees with the Bethe-ansatz scattering matrix without free parameters. Beyond the scattering probabilities, the col…

A Warped Born Rule Turns an Observer into a Maxwell's Demon ↗

Quantum mechanics seems to be an incredibly delicate theory. Slight alterations to nearly any part of its structure can lead to huge qualitative differences and wildly unphysical predictions. Here, we explore the many-body consequences of replacing the Born rule $p(m)\propto\|P_m|ψ\rangle|^2$ by a warped rule $p_b(m)\propto\|P_m|ψ\rangle\|^{2b}$. Specifically, in systems with conserved particle number, evolution punctuated by repeated local particle observations acquires a probabilistic bias over measurement histories with an effect controlled by the sign of $b-1$. For $b>1$, this bias generic…

DyssomniaNN: Multi-Scale Spiking Neural Modeling of Human Sleep Disorders and Perceived Restedness ↗

Clinical sleep medicine repeatedly documents profound divergences between objective sleep duration and subjective daytime impairment, notably exemplified by sleep state misperception in paradoxical insomnia and boundary instability in narcolepsy type 1. Here, we present DyssomniaNN: a multi-scale biophysical computational framework coupling Borbély's two-process regulation of sleep homeostasis and circadian drive with Saper's hypothalamic reciprocal flip-flop circuit and a recurrent corticothalamic leaky integrate-and-fire spiking neural network. We formalize five clinical cohorts across an id…

Designing Protein Structures from Natural Language ↗

A central challenge in de novo protein design is generating proteins with desired structural and functional properties. Existing design models typically require a dedicated input representation for each property, limiting the design objectives they support. We develop Prompteina, the first all-atom structure generation model that supports new and broader design objectives specified in natural language, analogous to text-to-image generation. To train Prompteina, we construct Prompteina-Data, a paired text--protein structure dataset of 1.8M structures and 50M+ captions describing global and resi…

A scalable sample-based quantum diagonalization solver for general Pauli-sum Hamiltonians ↗

A scalable ground-state solver to be used in sample-based quantum diagonalization (SQD) is presented. The solver is built on JAX API, and is intended to be run on GPU platforms and possibly many-GPU high-performance computing facilities. It is capable of subspace diagonalization in up to $2^{30}$-dimensional subspace, with possible upgrades to enable even larger-scale operations. The two main components, a general-purpose eigensolver and an SQD-specific matrix-vector operation function, are described in detail. Efficiency of the eigensolver with respect to the GPU memory is demonstrated using…

How to assess evidence about Science

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
