THE INTERNET IS THINKING

Earlier sources: Science

Science investigates the natural world through observation, experiments, and mathematical models. Explore papers and developments in biology, medicine, materials, neuroscience, physics, climate, and mathematics; a reported finding is not necessarily established consensus.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

1328 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Assessment of sky brightness in central Portugal: the Dark Sky destination "Aldeias do Xisto" case study ↗

A combination of remote sensing techniques, open space data and field testing was developed to derive astronomical and meteorological parameters and assess Dark Sky brightness of the hitherto unstudied Schist Villages region in the mountainous Interior Center of Portugal. This study covered the period 2012-2017 and established the methodology for regular light pollution and sky brightness studies in the region using satellite imagery to reduce cost and time and increase accuracy of the final analysis. Long-term Artificial Light At Night (ALAN) data from VIIRS instrument aboard the Suomi-NPP sa…

World Models' Last Exam in Physics ↗

Video world models can produce visually convincing yet physically inconsistent sequences, raising concerns about their reliability for prediction and planning in embodied AI systems. Existing evaluations often rely on model-based judgments or reference videos, while direct physical tests largely focus on mechanics. We introduce World Models' Last Exam in Physics, a measurement-based benchmark for evaluating physical consistency in video world models. The benchmark comprises 40 controlled tasks spanning mechanics, optics, fluids, thermal and phase-change phenomena, electromagnetism, and surface…

Energy-constrained two-way capacity bounds for noisy Gaussian channels ↗

A gap between achievable rates and converse bounds persists for energy-constrained bosonic communication in the presence of excess noise. We derive a unified adaptive weak-converse bound for thermal attenuation, noisy amplification, and additive Gaussian noise under an unconditional mean transmitted-photon-number constraint. The bound applies to arbitrary adaptive protocols with quantum memories and constrains the two-way quantum, entanglement-distribution, private, and secret-key capacities. It vanishes throughout the entanglement-breaking region and approaches the corresponding PLOB bound at…

Observing the magic Mpemba effect in localized dynamics on a digital quantum computer ↗

The Mpemba effect challenges the intuition that states closer to equilibrium must relax faster. We ask whether an analogous magic-ordering reversal can occur in the generation of quantum magic (nonstabilizerness), a key resource for universal quantum computation: can a state with less initial magic overtake one with more and reach its asymptotic value sooner? Here, we uncover interaction-induced dephasing as a distinct mechanism for this magic Mpemba effect, requiring neither transport nor conventional thermalization. For tilted product states in an interacting $\ell$-bit model, a random-phase…

Complexity of self-consistent entanglement certification ↗

In recent work Phys. Rev. X 16, 031057 (2026), we proposed a self-consistent approach to entanglement certification based on generalized noncontextuality. It requires no prior characterization of the measurement devices and, given access to all local measurements, can certify every entangled state in a Bell circuit. Here, we study the complexity of this protocol in a finite experiment. At fixed local dimension $d$, we show that the optimal number of distinct local effects needed to reach a trace-distance \textit{entanglement resolution} $γ$ is $Θ_d(γ^{-(d-1)})$. This scaling is necessary even…

Neural Petri flows for chemical reactions ↗

Petri nets have been used to describe chemical processes such as reactions. They map well to chemistry: Places are the bonds between atoms and the free valence of each atom, a token is a unit of bond order, a transition forms or breaks a bond, the conserved quantities are the valence budgets of the atoms, and the enabling rule is the valence rule. These semantics are not guaranteed by learned models of reactions or neural networks that are built on Petri nets that use the net as a scaffold for message passing. Here, we ask what architecture remains a Petri net for every value of its weights. We…

No-Disturbance-without-Uncertainty generates the Quantum set in the simplest Bell scenario ↗

Characterizing the set of quantum nonlocal correlations through information-theoretic constraints is a central problem in quantum foundations. We show that the convex hull of no-signalling behaviors in a bipartite Bell experiment satisfying a common-overlap no-disturbance-without-uncertainty condition is exactly the finite-dimensional quantum set whenever one party has two binary measurements and the other has an arbitrary finite number of settings, each with an arbitrary finite number of outcomes. In the simplest binary input-output Bell scenario, this characterizes the full eight-dimensional…

Entanglement manipulation and magic area-laws ↗

Physical many-body quantum systems typically interact locally, giving rise to ground states where entanglement grows with the area of the region being probed. Beyond entanglement, non-stabilizerness (or "magic") has been established as another crucial resource linked to quantum complexity and the properties of error-correcting states. Unlike entanglement, non-stabilizerness typically behaves with a volume-law scaling in ground states, indicating inherent computational complexity. In this work, we show that under a recent classification of quantum states, area-law states split into two distinct…

Efficient Learning of Structured Fermionic States under General Quadratic Evolution ↗

We prove that unknown pure fermionic states prepared from disjoint-branch fixed-particle-number blocks can be reconstructed after general quadratic evolution, including pair creation and annihilation. For a fixed particle cap per block, adaptive or nonadaptive single-copy Gaussian measurements yield classical input and circuit descriptions with prescribed fidelity and confidence, using polynomial resources in system size and inverse infidelity. The adaptive procedure has the sharper copy guarantee. Connected quartic correlations and a covariance-compatible commutant identify the hidden blocks;…

How to assess evidence about Science

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
