Earlier sources: Science

Science investigates the natural world through observation, experiments, and mathematical models. Explore papers and developments in biology, medicine, materials, neuroscience, physics, climate, and mathematics; a reported finding is not necessarily established consensus.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

1440 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Quantum simulation of field-tunable spin spectroscopy of the quantum magnet Cs2CoCl4 on a trapped-ion quantum computer ↗

The collective excitation spectra of quantum magnets provide a direct test of quantum computers as tools for studying strongly correlated matter. Hardware noise limits the circuit depths available for these calculations, leaving the question of how much magnetic information can survive circuit compression. Using IonQ's 36 qubit Forte Enterprise processor, we simulate the magnetic excitation spectra and spin dynamics of a 36 site Heisenberg XXZ chain describing the quantum magnet Cs2CoCl4 in a transverse field using quantum circuits containing just 420 two qubit gates. The workflow combines an…

Classical Algorithms for Bipartite Quantum Max-Cut on Dense Expanders ↗

Quantum Max-Cut is a well-studied local Hamiltonian problem for which the classical complexity of the bipartite case remains open. We give a polynomial-time classical randomized algorithm for the spin-$\tfrac12$ antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model, equivalently Quantum Max-Cut, on dense balanced bipartite expanders. This class includes $G(n,n,p)$ with high probability for every fixed $p>0$. The algorithm estimates the ground energy and any ground state edge correlation to additive error $\varepsilon$ in time polynomial in $n$ and $1/\varepsilon$. We construct a Markov chain on perfect matchings…

Optimal kernel functions for linear combination of Hamiltonian simulation ↗

Linear combination of Hamiltonian simulation (LCHS) provides an asymptotically optimal framework for the quantum simulation of linear non-unitary dynamics. The LCHS approach approximately implements the Peano--Baker propagator through an integral representation determined by a kernel function. We establish an LCHS approximation theorem for a broadened class of admissible kernel functions, defined by natural complex-analytic conditions. In the standard time-independent block-encoding access model, we explicitly construct, for each target error $\varepsilon$, the unique kernel function in this c…

BARC codes: general polynomial framework for coherent-state superposition codes ↗

We introduce an algebraic framework for constructing a new class of quantum error-correcting codes, bosonic algebraically-restricted constellation (BARC) codes. The code states are finite superpositions of coherent-state constellations constrained by symmetries of solution sets to multivariate complex polynomial systems. The constraints are associated with photon-gain and photon-loss errors, thereby imposing approximate Knill--Laflamme conditions for such errors. For equally-weighted constellation points, we derive upper bounds on the minimum geometric separation between points, indicating how…

    Lie Algebraic Uncertainty Relations ↗

Uncertainty relations express the fundamental incompatibility of quantum observables, yet optimal state-independent bounds are known analytically in only a few cases. Here we introduce a covariance-based formulation of quantum uncertainty that yields an infinite family of relations for both Hermitian observables and non-Hermitian operators. For operators forming a basis of a Lie algebra, we derive the optimal bound in closed form from the algebra and its representation, replacing optimization over quantum states with a direct algebraic calculation. Within each weight space, uncertainty takes a…

Broken scale symmetries in undercomplete linear autoencoders ↗

Neural network loss landscapes have many symmetries, which are preserved by gradient flow but broken by finite-stepsize stochastic gradient descent (SGD). A canonical example of such a symmetry is scale in homogeneous networks: one can scale up the parameters in one layer and down in the next without changing the network output. Previous work has documented cases in which SGD breaks this symmetry in favor of balancing gradient noise or minimizing fluctuations. Here, we show that the solution geometry of undercomplete linear autoencoders instead selects a preferred sign for scale drift: on the…

NeutronGym: Physics-Graded Neutron Instrument Design for LLM Agents ↗

Designing a scientific instrument tests whether language-model agents can do physics rather than recall it, provided the grading cannot be argued with. We introduce NeutronGym, to our knowledge the first executable environment for neutron instrument design: agents build instruments through validating tools, McStas ray-traces what they build, and a level-resolved ladder grades syntax, runtime, structure and science with no LLM judge. Procedural families supply unlimited instances of a fixed layout whose design parameters the agent must set, with held-out parameter regimes; a curated slice, McSt…

Quantum Fire with Delegated Cloning ↗

Quantum fire is a recently introduced cryptographic primitive consisting of efficiently preparable quantum states, called \emph{flames}, that admit efficient cloning but resist efficient telegraphing, namely reconstruction via classical communication without preshared entanglement. In all prior constructions of quantum fire, cloning is a public operation that requires no separate key and every holder of a flame state can clone it. For applications to access control, however, an issuer may wish to delegate cloning to designated quantum servers while withholding this capability from other flame…

    Constant-Rate Certified Deletion ↗

We present a unified framework for upgrading a broad class of cryptographic primitives to support constant-rate certified deletion. Previous constructions require a linear number of qubits per encrypted bit of certified-deletable plaintext. In contrast, we obtain the first constant-rate constructions in the plain model that achieve certified deletion while preserving everlasting security. Our approach applies to a wide range of "all-or-nothing"-type primitives based on BB84-style encodings, including commitment schemes, public-key encryption, attribute-based encryption, and fully homomorphic e…

    Design, Fabrication, and Free-Space Characterization of a Two-Photon-Polymerized Nano-printed Photonic Lantern ↗

Photonic lanterns provide an interface between multimode optical fields and arrays of single-mode waveguides, making them promising components for modal filtering, wavefront sensing, and high-contrast astronomical instrumentation. We present the design, simulation, two-photon-polymerization fabrication, and free-space characterization of a compact photonic lantern optimized for operation at $ 1050~\mathrm{nm} $. The device was designed to transform a multimode input into five nominally single-mode output waveguides. Eigenmode-expansion simulations in Ansys Lumerical MODE were used to optimize…

How to assess evidence about Science

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
