THE INTERNET IS THINKING

Earlier sources: Science

Science investigates the natural world through observation, experiments, and mathematical models. Explore papers and developments in biology, medicine, materials, neuroscience, physics, climate, and mathematics; a reported finding is not necessarily established consensus.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

1707 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Analog neutral-atom for in-memory processing in quantum reservoir computing ↗

Quantum Reservoir Computing (QRC) exploits the rich dynamics of quantum many-body systems to process time-dependent information with high-dimensional state spaces. While neutral atom arrays offer a scalable platform for this paradigm, realizing intrinsic temporal memory without relying on external classical buffering requires precise control over the relaxation dynamics of the system. We address the necessity of specific non-unitary dynamics for enforcing fading memory while overcoming the lack of separability. This study simulates and empirically identifies the specific dynamical regimes requ…

Sharp pairwise reduction for quantum hypothesis testing ↗

We determine the optimal universal coefficient in a reduction of multiple to binary quantum hypothesis testing. Specifically, for every finite ensemble in any Hilbert space dimension (finite or infinite), we prove that the error probability of the global pretty good measurement (PGM) is at most four times the sum of the optimal binary error probabilities. By constructing a family of regular-simplex ensembles, we further show that the coefficient four is optimal, even for arbitrary global measurements. This result improves on the pairwise bounds established by Cheng and Liu [arXiv:2606.06246 (2…

Cross-Scale Transfer Learning for Depression Severity Prediction: From PHQ-8 to HAMD-17 Across Languages and Clinical Paradigms ↗

This work addresses continuous depression-severity score prediction from clinical interview transcripts under data scarcity. We propose a sequential low-rank adaptation (LoRA) protocol for cross-scale transfer: a Qwen3 backbone with a bounded regression head is first fine-tuned on the English DAIC-WOZ dataset (189 avatar-mediated sessions, PHQ-8), and the adapter then initializes fine-tuning on the Chinese PDCH dataset (100 real clinical consultations, HAMD-17), where a reinitialised, scale-specific head predicts the clinician-assigned score. All configurations use patient-level stratified 5-f…

Repairability of Inexact Solvers in Recursive State Estimation with Machine Learning ↗

Recursive state estimation often executes approximate numerical solutions inside a feedback loop, where highly accurate local steps do not guarantee better overall results. For a fixed linear Kalman model, we characterize when a correction within a prescribed subspace and norm budget can meet a local admissibility tolerance, and how the defects actually executed affect the finite-horizon covariance response. Centering each defect on the exact gain for the implemented covariance separates current solve error from inherited gain drift. Expanding the exact residual-drift identity reveals opposing…

Retrospective on the Design and Implementation of the Milestone-Based Fusion Development Program of the U.S. Department of Energy ↗

This paper provides a detailed account of the origins, objectives, design, and implementation of the Milestone-Based Fusion Development Program, a public-private-partnership (PPP) program launched by the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Science in September 2022. The purpose of this program is multi-faceted, with policy, scientific and technological (S&T), and commercialization objectives. Tactically, the program supports privately funded fusion companies in closing S&T gaps toward delivering preliminary engineering designs of their demonstration fusion plants (aka "fusion pilot plants").…

Quantum score matching with applications to learning thermal states ↗

Score matching has driven major advances in classical generative learning by enabling models to learn from data without evaluating intractable normalization constants, or partition functions. Yet, extending this principle to quantum learning requires rethinking its foundations, as quantum states are described by noncommuting density operators rather than scalar probabilities. The noncommutativity creates fundamental challenges not only in defining quantum scores, but also in developing a training framework with efficient circuit implementations and rigorous theoretical guarantees. In this work…

Image Compression Using Quantum Wavelet Transform and Quantum Convolutional Networks ↗

This paper presents a hybrid quantum-classical framework for grayscale image compression and decompression, leveraging the strengths of quantum computing and deep learning. The compression pipeline integrates a Variational Quantum Daubechies Wavelet Transform (V-QDWT) and a trainable Quantum Convolutional Neural Network (QCNN) optimized end-to-end to achieve efficient, image-adaptive multi-resolution analysis and entanglement-based feature reduction. Input images are encoded using the Normal Arbitrary Superposition State (NASS) representation, enabling compact and scalable quantum storage. For…

Motif-Vocab: StatisticallyCalibrated Transcription-Factor-Identity Tokenization forGenomic Language Models ↗

Tokenization is a central design choice in genomic language models, yet most deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) tokenizers use characters, fixed-length k-mers, or frequency-derived subwords without explicitly using prior information about the specificity of DNA-binding regulatory factors. We introduce Motif-Vocab, a biologically informed tokenizer that scans both DNA strands for statistically calibrated motif matches, emits transcription-factor (TF) identity tokens, and applies nucleotide, $k$-mer, or byte-pair encoding (BPE) to unmatched sequence. Motif-specific null distributions put position-weigh…

Simulation of a Battery Cell on Quantum Computers: Reactions & Transport ↗

Simulations of electrochemical materials and systems accelerate technological progress, but are still limited by computational power. In particular, quantum computing offers prospects for higher resolutions, due to the exponential amount of data that can be stored in a quantum state. As current quantum computers are still noisy, we consider a hybrid quantum-classical algorithm, that divides the problem into smaller computational tasks. We describe how to implement such an algorithm for non-linear partial differential equations, the Feynman-Kitaev Hamiltonian, in a scalable way for an electroch…

The Minimal Dimension of Entangled-Noise Advantage ↗

Can entangled noise erase entanglement more efficiently than separable noise? Standard robustness restricts the added noise to separable states; generalized robustness allows any state. We prove that the two costs coincide for every two-qubit state and give an explicit full-rank qubit--qutrit state with a strict gap. Positivity under partial transpose (PPT) characterizes separability in both dimensions, so the boundary is not caused by a failure of the PPT criterion. Instead, product-vector geometry permits a rank-one bridge between the two-qubit dual optimizations and supplies a two-dimension…

How to assess evidence about Science

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
