Earlier sources: Physics

This science thread follows physics through original research, public projects, and source reports. Read the evidence below to see which developments are represented in SYMTRI’s archive.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

316 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

    Experimental quantum-computing-enhanced sensing using Grover's algorithm ↗

The combination of quantum sensing with quantum computing to provide an enhancement over conventional quantum sensing has recently emerged as a promising potential application of quantum computing that could give advantages without needing large-scale or fault-tolerant hardware. In this work, we report an experimental demonstration of a recent theoretical proposal to repurpose Grover's search algorithm to improve the ability to detect signals with unknown frequency within a large detection bandwidth. Our experiments were based on a system comprising a single superconducting qubit coupled to a…

Cyclotomic Cosets: Hidden Subgroup and Quantum Sieving Algorithm for Prime-Power Moduli ↗

The Learning With Errors (LWE) problem is a fundamental assumption in post-quantum cryptography. Regev established a quantum reduction from LWE to the Dihedral Coset Problem (DCP). Later, Brakerski et al. introduced the Extrapolated Dihedral Coset Problem (EDCP), proving its equivalence to LWE. However, unlike DCP, EDCP no longer admits a coset structure. This limits the direct application of techniques for hidden subgroup problems. In this work, we introduce the Cyclotomic Coset Problem (CCP), a cyclotomic generalization of DCP that preserves an exact hidden-subgroup structure. Let $ζ_p$ be a…

Simulation-Based Quantum System Inference with Neural Posterior Estimation ↗

Models of quantum systems faithfully map system parameters to observations, but the inverse problem of parameter inference from measurement data presents a fundamental challenge: computationally intractable likelihoods due to an exponentially large Hilbert space. Here, we introduce simulation-based quantum system inference, a unified, likelihood-free framework that learns parameter posteriors directly from classical simulation data. The central idea is to pair polynomial-cost classical simulators, such as Pauli propagation and tensor networks, with normalizing flows or other neural density est…

Classical simulation of amplitude-damped bucket-brigade quantum random access memories via predictable branch evolution ↗

Classical simulation of quantum random access memory (QRAM) under noise can be accelerated dramatically by branch pruning: noise histories are sampled as trajectory ensembles, and good branches, whose routing paths avoid every sampled fault, need not be evolved because their final states are analytically predictable. Under amplitude damping this predictability is not automatic, because the no-jump operator $K_0$ acts on every branch at every time slice. Here we give a complete account of damping-channel predictability in bucket-brigade QRAM simulation, for both qutrit and qubit encodings. For…

    Directional pumping of a two-level system by a fluctuation-regulated quantum source ↗

A resonant classical field drives a two-level system coherently and, with ordinary relaxation, produces saturation rather than directional population transfer. Here we show that directionality emerges when the excitation source is retained as a quantum subsystem and subsequently traced out. We model the source as a single-excitation degree of freedom, or equivalently a stream of two-level ancillas, exchange-coupled to a target two-level system. The source first moment generates the usual coherent drive, while its second moments produce upward and downward dissipative channels. For a number-dia…

Physics-Attested Federated Learning: Securing Collaborative Anomaly Detection in Critical Water Infrastructure ↗

Federated learning enables industrial operators to train shared intrusion detection models without disclosing proprietary operational telemetry. However, existing defenses operate strictly in update space, leaving aggregators blind to data poisoning; model updates derived from fabricated telemetry remain indistinguishable from honest contributions. We repurpose cyber-physical process invariants, such as conservation laws and actuator couplings, from runtime detection heuristics into a verifiable admission requirement for federated updates, mined automatically from clean operational data. We ev…

Efficient Simulation of Hybrid Continuous- and Discrete-Variable Quantum Circuits via Gaussian Decompositions ↗

Hybrid quantum systems combining discrete-variable (DV) and continuous-variable (CV) subsystems arise across a broad range of physical platforms and enable quantum information processing beyond purely qubit-based designs. Their classical simulation, however, is challenging since computational costs of both CV and DV systems exponentially increase. In this paper, we introduce a simulation framework for CV--DV hybrid systems based on linear combination of Gaussian (LCoG) decomposition. We decompose the hybrid density matrix into blocks in a DV basis and represent each block as an LCoG expansion.…

    Depth-Optimal Quantum Compilation ↗

We achieve the first constant-depth circuit for arbitrary single-qubit gate synthesis. Unlike prior approaches, the construction is fully unitary and requires no pre-supplied catalyst. For any constant $δ>0$, it $\varepsilon$-approximates an arbitrary single-qubit gate using $O(\log^{1+δ}(1/\varepsilon))$ clean ancillae, Hadamard and $T$ single-qubit gates, $O(\log(1/\varepsilon))$-width generalized Toffoli gates, and sublogarithmic-width Fan-Out gates. We further eliminate Fan-Out entirely, showing that Hadamard, $T$, and generalized Toffoli gates alone suffice for constant-depth synthesis. W…

Trotterisation Thresholds and Dissipative Quantum Chaos in Open-System Digital Quantum Simulation ↗

Digital quantum simulation (DQS) is one of the most promising applications of quantum computing. Trotterised DQS models quantum dynamics by decomposing the evolution into a sequence of gate-based Trotter steps. Using larger Trotter steps reduces the required gate count, but it is now understood that the Trotterisation step size cannot be increased beyond a certain threshold value, beyond which there is a sudden breakdown in simulation accuracy, due to the onset of quantum chaos. To date, this behaviour has only been studied for closed systems not subjected to the environmental noise and decohe…

Quantum Entanglement in Variational Quantum Classification for Breast Cancer Diagnosis ↗

This study looks at how the entangling structure of a variational quantum classifier (VQC) relates to its performance in breast cancer diagnosis, using the Wisconsin Diagnostic Breast Cancer (WDBC) dataset. We tested three three-qubit configurations that share the same EfficientSU2 ansatz, COBYLA optimizer, and stratified five-fold cross-validation, but differ in their entangling structure: a single- repetition Ising-type coupling (A), a two-repetition linear Ising-type coupling (B), and a fully connected Heisenberg-type coupling (C). Entanglement was measured with the von Neumann entropy and…

How to assess evidence about Physics

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
