Earlier sources: Physics

This science thread follows physics through original research, public projects, and source reports. Read the evidence below to see which developments are represented in SYMTRI’s archive.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

304 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Bypassing no-go theorems on mixed classical-quantum systems: the (counter)example of hybrid van Hove theory ↗

Motivated by models of mixed quantum-classical hybrid theories, we consider the representation of classical observables as Hilbert-space operators based on van Hove's unitary representation of contact transformations. This leads to a reformulation of classical mechanics where the phase space density satisfies the Liouville equation and, more importantly, classical observables are represented by van Hove operators that satisfy a commutation algebra isomorphic to the classical Poisson algebra of functions in phase space. Thus, this Hilbert space approach captures all the essential features of th…

Supporting functionals and singular boundary geometry of two-qubit entanglement of formation ↗

We give a criterion for the existence of a global supporting affine functional for the entanglement of formation at an entangled two-qubit state. It exists if and only if the spin-flip bilinear form is nondegenerate on the support of the state, or equivalently, if the last concurrence root associated with the support is nonzero. In this case the entanglement of formation is locally Lipschitz continuous. In the degenerate case the state has rank two or three, and its projective support is tangent to the product-state quadric. For suitable perturbations outside the support, the entanglement of f…

On the applicability of Kolmogorov's theory of probability to the description of quantum phenomena. Part II: Bell inequalities ↗

Among the various "no-go theorems" in the foundations of quantum mechanics, Bell inequalities are among the few, which do not implicitly rely on the mathematical structure of quantum mechanics. Instead, Bell inequalities are commonly understood to rest on Kolmogorov's theory of probability and a "locality" assumption. Physical evidence supporting their violation is hence taken as evidence against at least one of these two assumptions. This work provides a comprehensive analysis of the physical debate on Bell inequalities from the point of view of Kolmogorov's theory of probability, focusing on…

Quantum Diffusion Models for Medical Image Analysis ↗

Quantum Machine Learning is a novel field of research aimed at devising machine learning approaches exploiting principles of quantum mechanics, such as superposition, entanglement and interference. In this context, we present a scalable hybrid Quantum Diffusion Model, and evaluate its use for medical image analysis. Specifically, our method is based on a Discrete-Time Quantum Walk algorithm, executed on a real quantum device, to model the forward dynamics of the diffusion model. For the backward step of the diffusion model, we devise and evaluate a classical learning model, which is used to re…

A physics-guided machine learning approach to screening spectral induced polarization measurements ↗

Spectral induced polarization (SIP) measurements are increasingly used in time-lapse monitoring studies and require consistent quality control before interpretation. SIP spectra are information-rich but susceptible to acquisition artifacts, noise, and nonphysical behavior, making reliable screening essential before spectra are used to infer material or process changes. Existing approaches rely largely on manual expert review or automated classifiers that do not explicitly evaluate physical plausibility. Here, we develop a physics-guided machine-learning workflow for raw SIP quality control tha…

Aharonov–Bohm interference in a $${\pmb{\mathbb{Z}}}_{\bf{2}}$$ lattice gauge theory on a hybrid qubit–oscillator quantum computer ↗

Abstract Lattice gauge theories, which have both dynamical matter and gauge fields, are strongly coupled problems that lie beyond the reach of classical computation. Quantum simulations may provide a tractable approach for studying lattice gauge theories, but implementing gauge-invariant encodings and real-time evolution remains experimentally challenging. Here we demonstrate a resource-efficient encoding of a $${{\mathbb{Z}}}_{2}$$ Z 2 lattice gauge theory using a hybrid qubit–oscillator trapped-ion quantum device, with the qubits representing the gauge fields and the vibrational modes of the…

A Physics-Informed Digital Twin Framework for Explainable Operational Health Monitoring of Utility-Scale Photovoltaic Systems Using SCADA Measurements ↗

The increasing deployment of utility-scale photovoltaic (PV) systems necessitates advanced monitoring frameworks capable of providing interpretable operational assessments beyond conventional SCADA visualization and threshold-based supervision. This study proposes a physics-informed analytical digital twin framework for monitoring the operational behavior of a grid-connected PV system using synchronized three-phase electrical measurements. The framework integrates SCADA data acquisition and preprocessing, physics-informed electrical feature engineering, Composite Health Index (CHI) constructio…

Optimal Design of the Microwave Oven Magnetic Shunt Transformer Using Physics-Based Equivalent Circuit Model and GNN-Guided NSGA-III Method ↗

Magnetic shunt transformers (MSTs) used in microwave ovens are designed with deliberately high leakage inductance for current limiting and voltage regulation. This requirement couples the core dimensions, winding parameters, shunt geometry, material cost, and power losses. This paper presents an optimal design strategy in which every candidate is evaluated by a physics-based equivalent circuit model and a graph neural network (GNN)-guided non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm III (NSGA-III) optimizer. In the proposed framework, all candidate designs are evaluated for their electromagnetic pe…

Photovoltaic tilt optimization using physics-informed machine learning methods ↗

Photovoltaic arrays are typically installed at a tilt angle, measured from the horizontal plane, close to the site latitude; however, this approach can underperform relative to the physics- or data-driven optimum tilt, resulting in suboptimal energy yields. In this work, we introduce a physics-informed machine learning framework to determine the annual fixed tilt that maximizes energy yield for Antalya, Turkiye. To this end, we process daily irradiance records to derive the diffuse fraction and seasonal harmonics. We use the Liu-Jordan isotropic model to generate a physics-based reference curv…

How to assess evidence about Physics

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
