THE INTERNET IS THINKING

Earlier sources: Medicine

This science thread follows medicine through original research, public projects, and source reports. Read the evidence below to see which developments are represented in SYMTRI’s archive.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

9 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Low-Intensity Continuous Ultrasound vs. Traditional Ultrasound: A Systematic Review and Descriptive Analysis on Past and Future Gold Standards for Deep-Tissue Diathermy in Clinical Medicine ↗

Background/Objectives: The thermal effects of therapeutic ultrasound (US) have been utilized to promote musculoskeletal healing. However, the optimal combination of US parameters, while studied in the past, has yet to be updated with the advent of newer US modalities, including low-intensity continuous ultrasound (LICUS). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of US frequency, intensity, and duration on changes in tissue temperature and to compare the thermal response between traditional US and LICUS. Methods: Following PRISMA guidelines, PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science were…

From molecular signal to clinical solution: extracellular vesicles in precision medicine for neurodegenerative diseases ↗

Neurodegenerative diseases continue to elude effective treatment because there are no tools available for detecting subclinical pathology, and therefore providing CNS-targeted interventions, prior to incompletely reversible neuronal loss. Extracellular vesicles (EVs), nanosized, membrane-delimited particles released by all cell types in the CNS, have emerged as highly promising therapeutic candidates to target the existing challenges in parallel. Their cell-type-specific molecular cargo is a faithful replicator of disease state and can be monitored at an early stage, longitudinally through tim…

Cleaner Processes, Safer Products: Environmental and Public Health Pathways for Chinese Herbal Medicine ↗

Chinese Herbal Medicines (CHMs) are at the crossroads of therapeutic practice, agricultural biodiversity, industrial production, and health. Traditional methods of CHM production, such as decoction, solvent extraction, evaporation, and purification, can be efficient but can use large amounts of water and organic solvents, use a lot of thermal energy, and repeat concentration processes. These liabilities are not limited to environmental issues but can also impact occupational exposure, emissions in the nearby communities, quality of pharmaceuticals, transfer of contaminants, and affordability a…

Lipid Nanoparticles at the Crossroads of Chemistry and Medicine: A Tutorial ↗

Abstract Lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) have risen to the forefront of modern therapeutics by enabling the clinical success of COVID-19 mRNA vaccines. In order for them to function as drug delivery vesicles, LNPs must have scalable, tunable, and targeted nanoscale platforms whose strengths in versatility, performance, and clinical relevance are driven by key design parameters and formulation strategies. This Tutorial Review traces the historical evolution of LNPs and examines the fundamental design principles governing their structure, physicochemical properties, and biological behavior. It furthe…

Systematic identification of site-associated blood-based signature patterns across 29 infection types: a large-scale analysis of 455,530 patients toward precision infection medicine ↗

Accurate infection diagnosis remains challenging due to overlapping clinical presentations and lack of site-associated biomarker profiling. This study represents the first comprehensive investigation to systematically characterize site-associated blood-based signature patterns across multiple anatomical systems and infection types. This retrospective study analyzed 455,530 infection patients and 55,010 healthy controls. Infections were classified into 29 site-associated types across five anatomical systems. Propensity score matching and multiple imputation were applied. Beyond conventional dif…

Jev in Medicine: A Benchmark Evaluation. Preliminary Results ↗

Jev is a non-generative "System One" model that assigns probabilities to predefined answer options and cannot answer outside them. Its accuracy and calibration on medical question-answering and case-based diagnostic-reasoning tasks are unknown. We evaluated Jev 1.13 on four medical benchmarks: MetaMedQA, PubMedQA, DiagnosisArena-MCQ and the NEJM Case Challenges. GPT-6 Sol, with (medium) and without reasoning, was the reference. The primary outcome was top-1 accuracy; key secondary outcomes were calibration, selective prediction and recognition of unanswerable questions. All 8,469 requests retu…

Translational Barriers and AI‐Driven Challenges of Microfluidics‐Enabled Wearables and Implantable Systems in Personalized Medicine ↗

Wearable and implantable microfluidic systems have progressed from laboratory prototypes toward translational clinical deployment, enabling continuous, minimally invasive sampling of dynamic biomarkers across sweat, saliva, tears, and interstitial fluid. However, existing reviews often address materials chemistry or device fabrication in isolation, obscuring the systemic path to clinical translation. This review establishes a cohesive, translation-focused linear trajectory starting from foundational functional biomaterials and advanced fabrication techniques, transitioning into a performance b…

PEG-Heparin hydrogels allow for the assessment of breast cancer tumouroid response to anti-cancer treatment for personalised medicine ↗

Objectives The validation of accurate three-dimensional (3D) models holds significant importance for anti-cancer drug development and screening processes, aiming to minimise the time and resources lost during their development using conventional procedures. Here, we investigated whether bioengineered PEG-Hep hydrogels, a bioengineered breast tumour model, can be used to characterise the responses of immortalised breast cancer cell lines or primary patient-derived breast cancer tumouroids to anti-cancer treatments in 3D. Methods Drug-hydrogel interactions were first assessed using ultraviolet s…

Regulating Lipid Metabolism in Cancer: The Therapeutic Potential of Traditional Chinese Medicine ↗

Lipid metabolic reprogramming is a key feature of tumor cells to adapt to the microenvironment and plays an important role in tumor growth, invasion, and metastasis. This article provides a systematic review of the pathological mechanisms underlying lipid metabolism disorders in tumor cells, including abnormalities in fatty acid (FA) and cholesterol metabolism and their association with tumor progression. Furthermore, it summarizes the mechanisms by which traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and its natural active compounds regulate lipid metabolism through multiple targets and pathways, such as…

Virtual Horizons in Medicine: The Role of the Metaverse in Transforming Medical Education—A Qualitative Scoping Review ↗

ABSTRACT Background The metaverse is defined as a three‐dimensional, interactive and persistent virtual space in which users interact with one another and with simulated environments through digital avatars. This technology, as an innovative approach to education and learning, holds transformative potential for medical education. This qualitative scoping review aimed to identify, analyze, and synthesize qualitative evidence on stakeholders' perspectives and experiences regarding the application, role and significance of the metaverse in medical education. Methods This scoping review was conduc…

How to assess evidence about Medicine

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
