Earlier sources: Climate Science
This science thread follows climate science through original research, public projects, and source reports. Read the evidence below to see which developments are represented in SYMTRI’s archive.
SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.
Open in the map ↗34 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.
Earlier sources
Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Electrochemical Synthesis of Composites Based on Silicon and Carbon Nanotube Compounds as a Platform for Biocatalyst Development ↗
Progress in the field of modern heterogeneous catalysts requires the development of composite materials with a well-developed surface area and sorption capacity, as well as the possibility of functionalization in a specific direction. This paper presents the results of electrochemical synthesis of composites based on an organosilica matrix and multi-walled carbon nanotubes for subsequent application as a platform for enzyme immobilization. By potentiostatic electrodeposition, composite coatings based on two types of organosilica sol (STPEG and STEG) were applied to the surface of a glassy carb…

Statistical Downscaling of Daily Precipitation from ERA5 Atmospheric Fields to IMERG over West Africa ↗
Global reanalyses are too coarse to resolve the convective systems that produce most West African monsoon rainfall. In this work, we use U-Net based architectures to downscale daily ERA5 fields (0.25°) to IMERG V07 satellite precipitation (0.1°) over West Africa for the June to October seasons of 2000 to 2024, using geopotential, temperature, humidity and wind at three pressure levels together with elevation and land fraction. Adding ERA5 precipitation as input slightly improves performance for this particular challenging region. We find that all the deterministic networks investigated for thi…

Forecasting carbon-risk hotspots ahead of the extreme 2026 El Niño ↗
A potentially super El Niño is forecasted in 2026, raising the need to anticipate land carbon-cycle risks before its impacts unfold. We develop a prospective early-warning framework that uses dynamic global vegetation models driven by an ensemble of ECMWF seasonal climate forecasts and machine-learning burned area predictions. Forecasts indicate a $0.23 \pm 0.21$ PgC reduction in global net biome productivity in the second half of 2026, with hotspots of sink weakening in eastern South America and elevated fire risk in Southeast Asia.

Quinones as Optical Signal Transducers: Emerging Roles in Spectroscopic Sensing, Carbon Dots, and Enzyme-Free Immunoassays ↗
Quinones have emerged as versatile optical signal transducers in spectroscopic analytical chemistry because of their unique redox activity, electron-transfer capability, reactive oxygen species generation, and tunable photophysical properties. Beyond their traditional roles as biologically active molecules and electrochemical mediators, quinones now function as derivatization reagents, fluorescence-modulating probes, recyclable chemiluminescent and colorimetric signal amplifiers, functional nanomaterial components, and stable labels for enzyme-free immunoassays. This review presents a unified…

Climate Sensitivity Derived from First-Principles Temperature Feedback Circuits ↗
A long-standing challenge in climate science since the Charney Report in 1979 is to determine how much the Earth's climate warms in response to a unit external energy input at the top of the atmosphere (TOA). In this study, we show from first principles that temperature feedback within an atmosphere-surface column operates as a set of feedback circuits, each governed by an intrinsic gain less than unity, leading to geometric amplification of energy through successive feedback cycles. In particular, the surface-centered temperature feedback circuit determines the amplification of surface energy…

The Hydrological Cycle and Circulation of Tidally-Locked Planets with a Finite Moisture Inventory ↗
Tidally-locked planets express a range of climate regimes distinct from those found in our solar system. Their atmospheres are often dominated by planetary-wide overturning circulations and super- rotating jets. In this paper we explore the hydrological cycle of such planets and how it might depend on the total inventory of condensate. To this end we use a set of idealised GCM simulations to probe the response of the hydrological cycle to the surface moisture budget in their atmospheres. We find that for low moisture inventories the climate quickly develops a barren day side and a moist night…

Morphology-based retrieval of local wave parameters and phase shifts in satellite-observed atmospheric disturbances ↗
Currently available methods for processing atmospheric wave disturbances are often based on integral wavelet transform techniques, which efficiently estimate spectral data but are fundamentally limited by the uncertainty principle. To address this limitation, this work proposes a novel morphological approach based on partitioning spatial disturbance profiles into separate, well-defined wave segments. By focusing exclusively on the local waveform morphology of a central half-wave and its two adjacent out-of-phase counterparts, and taking the modified Morlet wavelet as a primary example of a mod…

Evaluating LLMs for Translating Legacy Fortran Atmospheric Physics to GPU-Accelerated JAX ↗
Legacy Fortran physics packages in atmospheric models such as CESM, WRF, and E3SM pose a barrier to GPU modernization, while manual porting requires accelerator-programming expertise. We present LAFT (LLM-Assisted Fortran Translation), an agentic framework for converting Fortran atmospheric physics parameterizations into GPU-accelerated JAX while preserving numerical agreement with the Fortran reference. LAFT coordinates source-code analysis, translation, repair, runtime validation, and performance profiling. It combines a deterministic front end for metadata extraction and bridge generation,…

A Physics-Constrained Implicit Profile Network for Continuous Reconstruction of Tropical Cyclone Near-Surface Wind Profiles ↗
Near the ocean surface, tropical cyclone winds change rapidly with height, but direct measurements are limited because aircraft dropsondes provide only sparse and irregular observations. Continuous wind profiles are important for understanding hurricane boundary-layer processes, improving storm-surge prediction, supporting offshore engineering, and assessing coastal hazards. In this study, we developed an artificial intelligence model that combines machine learning with physical principles to reconstruct continuous wind profiles from sparse observations. The model is designed to preserve the o…

How to assess evidence about Climate Science
Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
