Earlier sources: Manufacturing
This hardware thread follows manufacturing through original research, public projects, and source reports. Read the evidence below to see which developments are represented in SYMTRI’s archive.
SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.
Open in the map ↗46 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.
Earlier sources
Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Advancements in Tactile Biosensors: The Role of Additive Manufacturing and Machine Learning in Biomedical Applications ↗
Tactile biosensors areimportant for biomedical applications that require sensing mechanical stimuli like pressure, strain, and vibration. This review considers developments in tactile biosensor designs through additive manufacturing (AM) and machine learning (ML). The review defines four sensor mechanisms, piezoelectric, piezoresistive, strain gauge, and capacitive, and summarizes their working principles, materials, and biomedical relevance. Various additive manufacturing methods, such as direct ink writing, fused deposition modeling, stereolithography, and selective laser sintering, are disc…

Unified Model of Magnetoresistive Angular Position Sensors with Manufacturing Tolerances ↗
This paper presents a unified model of magnetoresistive angular position sensors, applicable to sensors based on the three major sensor technologies: Anisotropic Magnetoresistance, Giant Magnetoresistance, and Tunnel Magnetoresistance magnetoresistive elements. Theoretical models of the three different magnetoresistive elements, including manufacturing tolerances, have been derived first. The models are then employed to derive a realistic model of a magnetoresistive measurement bridge. In order to construct a model of a magnetoresistive magnetic field direction sensor, besides bridge models, a…

Friction surfacing-based additive manufacturing of Ti–6Al–4V: process parameters, coating geometry, surface analysis, mechanical properties and corrosion behavior ↗
Abstract In the present work, the solid state deposition of Ti–6Al–4V on grade 2 titanium substrates by friction surfacing was investigated. After initial parameter optimization to select adequate horizontal and vertical forward speeds, tests were conducted with rotational speeds of 4000, 5000, 6000, 7000 and 8000 rpm. The deposited material was subsequently characterized in terms of its overall geometry and surface texture, mechanical properties, microstructure and electrochemical corrosion resistance in Hank’s Balanced Salt Solution (HBSS). Except for the coating obtained with 4000 rpm rotat…

Towards sustainable composite manufacturing: Impact of matrix variants on processing energy and mechanical performance of recycled glass fibre composites ↗
The transition to circular polymer manufacturing requires improved understanding of how recycled feedstock composition influences manufacturing energy demand and final material performance. While recycled fibre-reinforced thermoplastic composites have attracted increasing interest, the connected effects of material composition and processing conditions on specific energy consumption and mechanical properties remain insufficiently quantified. This study presents a systematic correlation-based analysis of post-industrial glass fibre-reinforced polypropylene (GFPP)-reinforced recycled polypropyle…

Flexural performance recovery and failure-mode transition in continuous-fibre thermoplastic composites repaired by in-situ additive manufacturing: A combined numerical and experimental study ↗
In-situ continuous-fibre additive repair restores damaged thermoplastic composites without a separate adhesive layer, but how load transfer between the parent laminate and printed patch reconstructs load sharing and governs failure remains unclear. This study combines four-point bending tests with a finite element model that represents the parent laminate, printed patch and parent–patch interface and quantifies the distribution of interfacial load transfer. Circular and square in-situ additive repairs recovered 99.3% and 94.0% of the intact stiffness and 91.0% and 84.1% of the intact peak load…

A Two-Stage Ant Colony Optimization-Based Approach to the Storage Location Assignment Problem (SLAP): An Application in a Cable Manufacturing Facility ↗
In this study, a two-stage approach based on K-Means clustering and Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) is proposed for solving the rack storage location assignment problem (SLAP) in a cable manufacturing facility where automated transport robots are used. In the first stage, 184 cables were clustered using the K-Means algorithm according to their monthly usage quantities across six production machines; the optimal number of clusters was determined as k=7 (silhouette score of 0.554) by jointly evaluating the elbow and silhouette analyses. In the second stage, a cost matrix was constructed by taking…

Biomechanical Design, Additive Manufacturing, and Proof-of-Concept Evaluation of a 3D-Printed Transradial Prosthesis with a Manual Ratchet-Type Locking Mechanism ↗
Background/Objectives: Upper-limb loss represents a critical clinical and socioeconomic challenge globally. While myoelectric devices offer multi-articulated grasping, their high cost restricts access in low-resource settings. This work presents the preliminary biomechanical design, Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) manufacturing, and proof-of-concept evaluation of a custom transradial prosthesis (EVA) with a manual, incremental ratchet-type tensioning mechanism. Methods: Virtual CAD assembly was parametrically customized from user anthropometry. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) incorporating trans…

Lightweight Cross-Condition Tool Wear Prediction via Transfer Learning for Resource-Constrained Edge Manufacturing ↗
In resource-constrained manufacturing environments, accurate prediction of tool wear under variable cutting conditions remains challenging due to the trade-off between computational overhead and prognostic reliability. Conventional signal processing and deep learning methods suffer from high model complexity, cross-domain distribution discrepancies, and excessive computation cost, limiting their practical deployment on edge devices. This paper proposes an optimized cloud–edge collaborative transfer learning framework for lightweight remaining useful life (RUL) prediction of milling tools. On t…

Real-Time Physical-to-Virtual Scene Reconstruction for Dynamic Manufacturing Systems via Semantic—Spatial Mapping ↗
Real-time reconstruction of virtual scenes in response to changing physical conditions remains a challenge in manufacturing digital-twin systems. During manufacturing operations, changes in object positions, orientations, and spatial arrangements require the virtual scene to be updated to reflect the evolving physical environment. Here, we present a physical-scene-driven semantic–spatial mapping framework to support real-time scene reconstruction in dynamic manufacturing systems. The framework integrates visual object detection, point-cloud-based spatial estimation, digital asset retrieval, an…

Recycling of used metal powder for additive manufacturing via vibratory disk milling ↗
Metal additive manufacturing produces less material waste than traditional manufacturing. However, metal powder waste is difficult to recycle compared to the bulk scrap of the same chemistry generated from conventional processes. The powdered material can have a more significant deteriorating impact on the environment. As one of the recycling strategies, ball milling of waste powder has been extensively studied; however, this method can take up to 48 h and typically produces plate-like particles, which are not ideal for many additive manufacturing methods. This study explored vibratory disk mi…

How to assess evidence about Manufacturing
Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
