Earlier sources: Chips

This hardware thread follows chips through original research, public projects, and source reports. Read the evidence below to see which developments are represented in SYMTRI’s archive.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

158 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Topology optimization of heat sinks for multi-chip systems considering thermal interaction and load imbalance ↗

The increasing power density of multi-chip electronic systems poses thermal-management challenges associated with localized hotspots, unequal chip loading, and inter-chip thermal coupling. Existing topology-optimization studies for electronic cooling have largely focused on single heat sources or individual operating conditions, while thermal interaction between multiple chips under varying power combinations has received less attention. This study develops a multi-load topology-optimization approach for a dual-chip heat sink under steady-state heat conduction. Nine representative load cases a…

CERIDWEN: Fast and Flexible GPU-Accelerated Stellar Population Inference ↗

JWST has increased both the number of high-redshift galaxies with high-quality spectral energy distributions (SEDs) and their information content. In parallel, wide-area surveys from Euclid, Rubin's LSST, and Roman will increase galaxy samples by orders of magnitude. Analysing these datasets requires stellar-population models that are both flexible and computationally efficient. We present CERIDWEN, a GPU-native SED fitting framework written in JAX, with an end-to-end differentiable forward model spanning stellar populations, nebular emission, dust attenuation and emission, and projection into…

A low-temperature entropy source for on-chip true random number generation: universal robustness beyond device quality ↗

True random number generation is a critical capability for fault-tolerant quantum computing at millikelvin temperatures. Yet existing Josephson-junction-based TRNGs all rest on a widely accepted but untested assumption: that reliable entropy extraction requires precisely controlled device parameters. Here we show that this assumption does not always hold. We demonstrate a counterintuitive finding: a single current-biased Josephson junction, regardless of its parameter quality, can serve as a cryptographic-grade true random number generator. To establish the universality of this conclusion, we…

    Membrane-Integrated Organ-on-a-Chip Systems ↗

Membranes play a key role in many organ-on-a-chip (OOC) platforms due to nutrient and mass transport, barrier formation, and mechanical signaling. However, despite their key role in OOC devices, the relationship between membrane design parameters and device performance is limited in the literature. Here, this review gives a critical overview of not only the types of membranes for OOC devices (natural, synthetic, hybrid, and emerging functional membranes) but also defines the key engineering design requirements for the selection and integration of membranes with microfluidic OOC platforms. Addi…

RISC-V hardware attack detection using on-chip hardware performance counters ↗

Abstract Hardware attacks exploit microarchitectural vulnerabilities at the CPU level, and RISC-V processors are no exception. These attacks induce anomalous behavior by stressing specific hardware components beyond the patterns observed in legitimate applications. Such deviations can be captured through internal monitoring units, namely Hardware Performance Counters (HPCs). This work analyzes a diverse set of hardware attacks on the RISC-V XuanTie C910 core and introduces a methodology that integrates HPC logging with Machine Learning (ML) techniques for automated attack detection. We present…

How to assess evidence about Chips

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
