THE INTERNET IS THINKING
Earlier sources: Software
Software turns computational ideas into tools and services. This region follows open source projects, developer tools, programming languages, databases, operating systems, and web and cloud platforms.
SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.
Open in the map ↗2050 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.
Earlier sources
Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Leveraging Game-Based Platform to Teach Code Refactoring: An Experience with Refactoria ↗
Refactoring is the art of improving the internal structure of the code without altering its external behavior. Because of the topic's significance, several teaching methods and strategies have been proposed in the literature. However, skills in identifying and refac- toring code smells come from training and experience, and a lack of motivation may hinder developers' adoption of refactoring tools. In this paper, we discuss the results of an experiment in the classroom that involved performing various refactoring activities to remove antipatterns using Refactoria, an innovative game-based tool…

Show HN: Beyond "chat with your database" – agentic data exploration ↗
Business intelligence is changing. AI can now do more than turn a question into a single SQL query: it can investigate a question through a series of queries, examining the result of one query to decide what to query next. Today, to answer a business question against a database, analysts use a tool like Tableau: they select relevant data, build an initial view using fields, filters, calculations, and visualizations, then look for patterns or anom…

Show HN: Stem splitting and audio conversion running in-browser with Rust/WASM ↗
I got tired of all the ugly "free" audio conversion tools littered with ads so I built my own that runs entirely on your machine in the browser. It does stem separation (vocals/drums/bass/other), format conversion, BPM detection and speed/pitch changes. Nothing is uploaded (there is no api) + the models runs client-side. Stack is Rust compiled to WASM, mediabunny for conversion + WebGPU. Getting a separation model to run at usable speed in the br…

Show HN: CSS Type Studio – Visual Editor for CSS Fonts Module Level 4 Properties ↗
Built this to make it easier for designers to play with OpenType features that they either don’t know about or typically can’t access because they are using Google Fonts, which strips out many features from font files to reduce file sizes. Browsers also hide some features, such as defaulting to synthesized small caps.

Show HN: Parrot – Open-Source Smart Meeting Recorder with Co-Pilot on Mac ↗
Hello Hacker News I am Uygar, I am an entrepreneur from London. I run my businesses on calls everyday, customers, partners and suppliers. And i have a horrible memory i forgot things. So months ago with the help of Claude i have built Parrot. I have designed and coded for my work and what i need. An to be honest worked very well and helped me alot. Parrot records what your mac hears and everything stays in your computer if you use local models, n…

Show HN: A CLI with better autocomplete and bookmarks ↗
This is a shell wrapper for Linux and Windows. It simplifies CLI workflows I find limiting in their default ones. Broadly, it has good autocomplete. It is aware of what directories you have been using, which commands you used recently, and which of these you used in the current directory. I can type `cd a_few_chars` of a directory I've been do before, or is bookmarked, or is a sub-dir of one I've bookmarked etc, and it gets it right. It also has…

Learning When and How to Intervene: A Hindsight-Distilled Sentinel for Coding Agents ↗
Coding agents solve repository-level tasks through sequences of actions, where a single erroneous action can misdirect subsequent decisions and increase recovery costs. Existing approaches use execution feedback for recovery or specialized checks to block errors, but deciding before execution whether intervention will benefit eventual task completion remains challenging. To address this challenge, we propose HiSentinel, a hindsight-distillation framework that trains lightweight 0.6B and 1.7B sentinels to select pre-execution interventions aimed at improving task completion rather than correcti…

How to assess evidence about Software
Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
