THE INTERNET IS THINKING

Earlier sources: Hardware

Hardware is the physical foundation of computing: chips, sensors, devices, networks, and the processes that manufacture them. Follow semiconductor research, compute architectures, and engineering developments alongside their software and energy connections.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

529 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Understanding Accelerator Compilers via Performance Profiling ↗

Accelerator design languages (ADLs), high-level languages that compile to hardware units, help domain experts quickly design efficient application-specific hardware. ADL compilers optimize datapaths and convert software-like control flow constructs into control paths. Such compilers are necessarily complex and often unpredictable: they must bridge the wide semantic gap between high-level semantics and cycle-level schedules, and they typically rely on advanced heuristics to optimize circuits. The resulting performance can be difficult to control, requiring guesswork to find and resolve performa…

Equivalence Checking of ML GPU Kernels ↗

With the rapid progress of deep learning and large language models (LLMs), companies spend enormous sums executing GPU kernels. These kernels have become prime targets for aggressive optimization. Recent efforts increasingly leverage LLMs to generate GPU kernels, but make no formal guarantees about the generated kernels. We present the first equivalence checker for GPU kernels and use it to formally verify the correctness of machine learning (ML) kernels optimized by hand, by LLM, and by compiler. We show that our equivalence checker is sound and, for a well-defined class of GPU kernels which…

GPU-Accelerated Path-Dependent Marginal Information Gain for Autonomous Exploration ↗

Autonomous exploration demands that robots continuously evaluate candidate viewpoints based on their expected information gain and execution cost. Sampling-based planners estimate this gain by volumetric raycasting and, due to its computational cost, evaluate candidates under an assumption of mutual independence, ignoring the overlap between viewpoints along the same path. This work presents a GPU-accelerated method for computing path-dependent marginal information gain, where instead of storing and merging the observed unknown voxels along each candidate path, previous observations are repres…

How to assess evidence about Hardware

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
