Earlier sources: Chips
This hardware thread follows chips through original research, public projects, and source reports. Read the evidence below to see which developments are represented in SYMTRI’s archive.
SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.
Open in the map ↗160 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.
Earlier sources
Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Show HN: Local pretrained classifiers, GPU not needed ↗
I was curious about what classifiers could do. It turns out, a lot, sometimes even play Doom. Jeffy is currently a collection of simple classifiers that can do spam detection, intent routing, topic classification, sentiment analysis and even play Doom Jeffy works locally on a regular computer, no GPU needed. It comes with 13 already-trained classifiers, and you can also use Jeffy to train your own classifiers And there’s a lot that can be built o…

Ask HN: Why don't we just use hashcat to evaluate GPU performance ↗
I ran the following on a M4 Pro (20 core GPU) in MacOS vs a 4070 Super in Windows 11 using WSL and was kinda shocked to see the dramatic difference in GPU performance. ## generate a random sha256 8 alphanumeric python3 - <<'PY' > hashes-sha256.txt import secrets import string import hashlib alphabet = string.ascii_letters + string.digits password = ''.join(secrets.choice(alphabet) for _ in range(8)) print(hashlib.sha256(password.encode()).hexdige…

The GPU Resilience Lottery: Understanding and Taming Real-World Hardware Errors in Heterogeneous AI Infrastructure ↗
The booming LLM demand is driving a rapid increase in the scale and heterogeneity of modern AI infrastructure. To achieve high availability for sustained LLM workloads, infrastructure providers must contend with frequent and severe hardware errors. Without a holistic resilience understanding, providers may inadvertently schedule AI jobs onto GPUs with high error risks and mitigate errors with significant costs, further degrading cluster availability. As a result, AI jobs are forced to ‘win’ a GPU resilience lottery for interruption-free execution. However, betting on a winning ticket, i.e., se…

Agent-optimized GPU polygenic scoring at cohort scale ↗
A polygenic score (PGS) is a unitless weighted sum of allele dosages, interpretable only as a percentile within a reference distribution. Evaluating risk across models requires scoring each individual against a whole reference panel, but current CPU pipelines process targets or models sequentially, making full cross-product calculations prohibitively expensive. We reformulated PGS calculation as a cohort-wide sparse matrix product on a GPU and optimized it via an autonomous coding agent under read-only inputs, cold starts, and strict numerical validation against pgsc_calc. The scorer was "trai

How to assess evidence about Chips
Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
