Earlier sources: AI and robotics

Robotics combines physical machines with sensing, planning, and control. This AI thread follows learning-based robot policies, simulation, perception, and evaluation in physical environments.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

41 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

A Scoping Review and Experimental Study on Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback for Human-Robot Collaboration ↗

Human-Robot Collaboration (HRC) can facilitate mass customisation in Industry 4.0, with Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF) representing a promising approach for developing safe AI-based robots. Practical challenges remain regarding safety during AI development, human feedback quality, and bidirectional human-robot adaptation. We conducted a scoping review of RLHF in HRC systems, mapping methods that address these challenges. Following PRISMA guidelines, we screened 199 records and included 20 peer-reviewed publications (2020-2025) spanning multiple HRC domains. To our knowledge,…

DepthWorld: 3D World Model for Robot Manipulation ↗

World models offer a data-driven alternative to traditional simulators for robotics, with applications spanning policy evaluation, improvement, and planning. All of these uses depend on faithful 3D geometry, yet current video-based world models are trained on RGB alone and produce rollouts that look correct frame-by-frame but do not compose into a consistent 3D world. Closing this gap requires progress on two fronts: large-scale 3D supervision for manipulation, and an architecture that can absorb it without disturbing strong pretrained video priors. We introduce a calibration pipeline that com…

VeriFine: Scaling Verification for Self-Improvement in Embodied Reasoning ↗

Self-improving policies continually expose new failure patterns, changing what their judges must be able to verify. However, current fixed judges constrain both optimization feedback and the discovery of useful training examples, limiting further self-improvement. This challenge is even more acute in embodied reasoning, where reliable evaluation must account for spatial grounding, causal reasoning, and safety-aware decision-making. We introduce VeriFine, an agent harness framework that scales verification through the co-evolution of the policy, training curriculum, and judge. The Policy Improv…

PhoneBot: A Low-Cost Open Humanoid Robot Platform Reusing Smartphones ↗

The adoption of humanoid robots in education and research remains limited by high hardware costs, complex sensing systems, and substantial computational requirements. This paper presents PhoneBot, a low-cost, open-source humanoid robot platform that repurposes commodity smartphones as its primary sensing and computing unit. By using a smartphone's integrated inertial measurement unit (IMU), camera, wireless connectivity, and onboard processing capabilities, PhoneBot reduces hardware costs and simplifies the system architecture. The robot combines a modular lower-body structure driven by 13 low…

    Demo: Closed-Loop Sionna-Isaac Sim Co-Simulation Framework for Wireless-Aware Robot Navigation over ROS 2 ↗

A robot that offloads its control loop to the network carries the receiver with it, so link quality is decided by where it goes. Simulating this requires both a physics engine and a site-specific propagation model at once; to our knowledge no simulator natively unifies both, with existing couplings of the two limited to offline analyses. We demonstrate a real-time co-simulation framework coupling NVIDIA Isaac Sim and NVIDIA Sionna over ROS 2 that closes the perception-action-communication (PAC) loop between them. Sionna ray-traces the base-station-to-robot channel over the exact geometry Isaac…

AutodidactWAM: Cross-Modal Self-Distillation from Generated Video to Robot Actions ↗

World-action models (WAMs) such as Cosmos 3 jointly generate future video and robot actions from an observation and instruction. Adapting one such model with a lightweight LoRA fine-tune to a previously unseen robot, a Unitree G1 humanoid with five-fingered BrainCo hands, exposes a video-action asymmetry: the video renders plausible task executions, while the co-generated action is systematically mis-targeted. We evaluate closed-loop real-robot trials at three cumulative stages: pre-grasp, grasp, and pick-and-place. The native action succeeds only approximately 17%, 10%, and 7% of the time, re…

Navigation with RF Cues: Embodied Perception Action under Multipath Uncertainty ↗

Smart factory inspection requires robots to reach connected equipment without a prior map or known target coordinates. Radio frequency (RF) signals from the target can provide directional cues to complement visual observations when occlusion or poor lighting limits target detection. However, multipath propagation can distort these cues, making it difficult to infer the target's true direction from instantaneous RF measurements. To enable navigation research under these conditions, we first construct a Habitat Sionna RT benchmark that uses detailed scene geometry and assigned material propertie…

Transporting Unsecured Stacked Payloads with a Quadrupedal Robot via Multi-Objective Reinforcement Learning ↗

Transporting unsecured payloads with legged robots over uneven terrain requires balancing locomotion performance and payload stability, since aggressive motion can destabilize the payload even when the robot remains stable. We study quadrupedal transportation of unsecured stacked boxes on an edgeless torso-mounted board without dedicated payload sensors or active carrier mechanisms. To address this trade-off, we propose Payload-Adaptive Multi-Objective Reinforcement learning for Transportation (PAMORT). PAMORT trains a multi-objective base policy conditioned on a preference vector that weights…

What the Guard Misses, the Robot Executes: Implied Harm in VLA Instructions ↗

Vision-language-action models (VLAs) act on instructions without being able to refuse, so screening harmful requests falls to monitors. We test whether these monitors catch ordinary robot tasks requested for harmful reasons, holding the task fixed while varying only how explicitly the intent is stated. $π_{0.5}$ completes the task at every level of explicitness, as often as for harmless controls. Text guards flag nearly every blunt request but few implied ones: up to 95% of implied-harm runs end with the task done and no flag raised, and up to 90% even after recalibrating on robot instructions…

DASH: A da Vinci Adapter for Serial-link and Humanoid Robots as an Accessible Platform for Surgical Robotics Research ↗

Robotic minimally invasive surgery offers well-documented clinical benefits, but the cost and infrastructure requirements of purpose-built platforms limit access in rural and lower-resourced facilities. Recent work has teleoperated general-purpose robots for laparoscopic tasks and in vivo procedures, but relied on handheld instruments coupled through passive linkages rather than native robotic actuation. Instead, we adapt da Vinci Classic and Xi instruments onto general-purpose robots that can integrate in clinical workflows. We present DASH, a da Vinci Adapter for Serial-link and Humanoid pla…

How to assess evidence about AI and robotics

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
