THE INTERNET IS THINKING
Earlier sources: Software
Software turns computational ideas into tools and services. This region follows open source projects, developer tools, programming languages, databases, operating systems, and web and cloud platforms.
SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.
Open in the map ↗2065 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.
Earlier sources
Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

What Should a Software Team Spend on Agents? Simulation-Based Cost Optimization of Mixed AI-Human Teams ↗
Context: AI agents are rapidly adopted in software development, but their token costs are rising and it is unclear how much a team should spend on agents, and on which tasks. Objective: We determine how teams should divide spending between human developers and AI agents to deliver the features a project demands at the lowest total cost. Method: We model mixed teams of human developers and AI agents with eight specialized roles as a discrete-time stochastic process covering bug injection and detection, technical debt, human supervision of agents, and release cycles with feature freezes. Using M…

Show HN: VS Code Bridge for Claude Code ↗
I use Claude Code inside VS Code, and four things kept getting in my way: 1. I couldn't send Claude my Markdown Editor selection, or a file I had open as a preview. 2. The claude CLI got none of the editor's context. 3. Claude couldn't run VS Code commands, so it couldn't adapt VS Code to what I was doing. 4. File links in its chat ignored the editor I chose for the file type and opened as raw text ( https://github.com/anthropics/claude-code/issu…

Show HN: CueLight – open-source <2mb/0.5M param always listening turn detector ↗
Before I get into the details, I'd just like to say I was able to build this thanks to the work done by the people who work on Pipecat & SmartTurn as this relied on their data. SmartTurn is a fantastic open source model for turn detection. I needed a much smaller version that could fit anywhere and be always on (always actually being every 20ms in this case), so I figured I could do a trade off of making it support one language only (English), no…

Doc2Harness: Benchmarking LLMs on Long-Horizon Harness Engineering of Coding Agents ↗
Agents driven by large language models are increasingly deployed on long-horizon tasks, where they use tools and modify real workspaces. How well they perform depends as much on the harness around the model as on the model itself. Existing benchmarks measure downstream task success under a fixed harness, leaving harness engineering itself unexplored. We propose Doc2Harness, a two-stage benchmark that evaluates long-horizon harness engineering directly. In Stage 1, a build model operating inside a fixed builder harness receives an interface-only contract skeleton and a development document that…

Show HN: GBFC – AOT and JIT Compiler Brainfuck and Brainfuck++ ↗
GBFC stands for General BrainFuck Compiler. In the compiler, I implemented 7 optimizations and many small optimizations outside the optimizer module, which allows the Mandelbrot set to be rendered in 0.9–1.1 seconds (about twice as slow as Rust, but remember, this is BrainFuck). You can see other benchmarks in the Github repo (README) and run them yourself. I’ve also implemented peval (evaluation during the compilation phase up to the first ‘,’),…

How to assess evidence about Software
Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
