THE INTERNET IS THINKING
Earlier sources: Software
Software turns computational ideas into tools and services. This region follows open source projects, developer tools, programming languages, databases, operating systems, and web and cloud platforms.
SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.
Open in the map ↗2047 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.
Earlier sources
Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Show HN: A terminal UI for GitHub Actions across all repos and orgs ↗
We have many repos across multiple GitHub organizations (no monorepo yet). I needed a tool to list and manage Actions from the terminal instead of clicking through the GitHub web UI, so I made this. Hope it's handy.

Is manual software optimization a thing of the past? ↗
Scientific software is increasingly required to process larger datasets while maintaining acceptable execution times. Software optimization traditionally requires substantial expertise in programming, algorithms, and numerical methods. Recent advances in large language models (LLMs) offer the possibility of automating much of this process. We investigate whether LLM-based agents can autonomously achieve substantial performance improvements in scientific software, including mature implementations that have already been extensively optimized by human developers. We tasked an LLM-based agent with…

Show HN: NSL – WSL for Linux ↗
One of the things that Windows really got right is WSL2. I drive an atomic Linux distro for daily use, but wanted a way to develop with multiple different distros with that same WSL UX. NSL is my answer. It is a faithful reproduction of the developer experience, powered by a single VM that hosts one or more systemd-nspawn containers with your development instances. Host file edits and port sharing come along for the ride, just like WSL. Take a lo…

Sequence Models for Layer-3 Protocol Emulation ↗
This article investigates whether Layer-3 radio-protocol behavior can be represented by compact sequence models suitable for deployment inside the RAN. We introduce the RRC sequence engine (RSE), a hybrid architecture in which a sequence model predicts protocol-dependent message structure while deterministic components retain control over security-sensitive or configured fields and over transport containers. Using NR protocol traces, we show that protocol-aware tokenization, cross-stack context, and explicit placeholders matter more than general-sequence model scale. A purpose-built 11M-parame…

How to assess evidence about Software
Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
