THE INTERNET IS THINKING

Earlier sources: Software

Software turns computational ideas into tools and services. This region follows open source projects, developer tools, programming languages, databases, operating systems, and web and cloud platforms.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

2070 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Energy-Driven Evaluation of Network Digital Twinning Applied to mmWave Beam Management ↗

Network Digital Twins (NDTs) are important enablers of 6G and future networks. However, there is a lack of studies regarding practical aspects, such as the impact of simultaneously changing twinning rate, fidelity, and other NDT operational parameters. For instance, works often consider the impact of operational parameters in isolation or with physical twin (PTwin) implementations relying on simulations. Therefore, the main contribution of this work is to provide an in-depth study on the performance impacts of both twinning rate and fidelity, using PTwins that rely on measurements obtained fro…

Ask HN: Can we translate normal Rust (axum) to Lean 4 without restrictions? ↗

I'm trying to build a web app in Rust using axum, and am thinking whether I can export that Rust code to Lean4 so that I can verify business logic or security properties. I first tried Aeneas, but it can only work for restricted grammer and structurs that are hard to review (it even doesnt look like Rust). For example, when I want to write: ``` fn find_post(ps: &[Post], id: u64) -> Option<&Post> { ps.iter().find(|p| p.id == id) } ``` I have to wr…

Resource versus Responsiveness: Benchmarking SDN Controller Runtimes for a Moving-Target-Defense Control Plane at Scale ↗

Network Moving Target Defense (MTD) built on Software-Defined Networking (SDN) continuously rotates host-facing addresses to invalidate an attacker's reconnaissance. Each rotation creates a burst of control-plane mutations, while new connections may simultaneously require reactive flow installation. Yet SDN controller runtime is usually treated as an implementation detail in the MTD literature. We show that it materially affects performance. We port the same Continuity-Preserving Address Mutation (CPAM) logic to three widely used controllers: Ryu (single-threaded cooperative Python), OpenDayli…

The Compiler May Read It, the Agent May Not: Keeping Part of a Research Code Away from a Coding Agent ↗

The compiler must read modules a physics-based solver cannot build without; the coding agent must not read that intellectual property. The harness does not ship that rule. We classified fifteen read routes against a container, permission rules and a sandbox. None of the three can tell which program is reading.

MCP Error Messages Written for Developers Hurt the Most Capable Agents Most ↗

Many Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers wrap web APIs built for human developers, and their error messages tell the reader to run a command, edit a configuration, open a web page or wait. Many agents that read them can only call the server's tools. In 150 widely used MCP servers, 949 of 3,001 error messages tell the caller what to do next, and half of these steps depend on something the server cannot see about the caller. On credential errors, 62 of 67 steps ask for a terminal command, a configuration change or a web page; on rate limits, 20 of 30 say to wait and retry without naming the cal…

How to assess evidence about Software

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
