THE INTERNET IS THINKING
Earlier sources: Software
Software turns computational ideas into tools and services. This region follows open source projects, developer tools, programming languages, databases, operating systems, and web and cloud platforms.
SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.
Open in the map ↗2290 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.
Earlier sources
Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

A Teacher–Student Point Cloud Segmentation Framework for Challenging Features ↗
Existing point cloud semantic segmentation models tend to favor classes with abundant points and salient structures, while sparse, small-scale, and confusable targets remain insufficiently represented. To address this issue, we propose an offline teacher–student point cloud segmentation framework for challenging features. The framework uses challenging-class-centered sampling to strengthen the teacher’s representation of hard-to-learn targets and their local contexts, and generates class-response priors that are point-wise aligned with the original point cloud. A Point Foundation Adapter (PFA)…

A Python-Based Data-Center Backup-Power Case for Sustainability-Oriented Engineering Education ↗
Engineering education benefits from computational cases that connect system assumptions, computational analysis, and engineering judgment in authentic contexts. This study documents the design of a Python-based engineering education case that recasts a data-center backup-power comparison between vanadium redox flow batteries (VRFBs) and diesel generators (DGs) into a structured computational activity. Guided by backward alignment, the case combines sizing and life-cycle-cost equations, parameter sensitivity, and supply–demand power-ratio analysis under three dispatch modes. In the 4 h benchmar…

Octree-based scaled boundary finite element framework for crystal plasticity: An open-source ABAQUS implementation ↗
Understanding the influence of microstructure on micromechanical fields is essential for optimising the mechanical response of metallic materials. In this regard, crystal plasticity (CP)-based polycrystalline simulations provide a powerful framework for resolving microstructure-sensitive deformation behaviour. CP formulations are predominantly implemented using either the finite element method (FEM) or fast Fourier transform (FFT)-based spectral methods. FEM offers geometric flexibility and supports arbitrary boundary conditions, whereas FFT-based methods provide superior computational efficie…

Ground Vibration and Air Overpressure Prediction Caused by Blasting Operations in a Gneiss Quarry Using a Gene Expression Programming Approach ↗
Abstract Introduction Rock blasting is a fundamental operation in mining and civil engineering, but it generates ground vibrations and air overpressure that can affect nearby structures and communities. Among these effects, peak particle velocity (PPV) and air overpressure (AOp) are commonly used indicators for environmental control and regulatory compliance. Traditional empirical predictors, such as scaled-distance relationships, have been widely used for their simplicity and ease of interpretation. However, these approaches often rely on strong assumptions about the functional form of the re…

Three-Subprocess Parallel Network DEA Model for Evaluation of Container Terminal Operational Efficiency ↗
Container terminals comprise multiple interdependent operational areas, yet conventional data envelopment analysis models often treat terminal operations as a single production process or represent them using only broad ship-side and landside functions. This study proposes a three-subprocess parallel network data envelopment analysis model that decomposes container terminal operations into ship-side, yard-side, and gate-side subprocesses. The model explicitly incorporates the storage yard as an independent operational component and distinguishes dedicated inputs and outputs from resources and…

Terminal-Assisted Web Authentication for Shared Devices with BLE-Based Confirmation Gating ↗
In shared-device scenarios, terminal-assisted Web authentication reduces credential exposure by keeping authentication credentials on a user-carried mobile terminal. However, existing methods struggle to minimize mobile interaction while protecting against account misuse by other users of the shared device. This study proposes a session-bound, terminal-assisted Web authentication method that uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) proximity evidence to adaptively tune user interaction. The method decouples identity verification from proximity-based interaction tuning: identity is verified via the mobi…

SensorW: Open-Source Wear Operating System Platform for Continuous Global Positioning System and Multimodal Sensor Data Collection in Real-World Settings ↗
Digital phenotyping requires continuous, real-world collection of multimodal behavioral and physiological data. Although several smartphone-based sensing frameworks have been developed and used, open-source platforms for long-term smartwatch sensor data acquisition remain limited. To bridge this gap, SensorW was developed, an open-source Wear operating system (OS)-based framework for direct lifelog data collection from smartwatches without requiring a paired smartphone or manufacturer cloud service. SensorW includes a front-end Wear OS application for sensor data collection and a back-end serv…

Reversible database watermarking with consistent virtual primary key synchronization ↗
Existing reversible database watermarking schemes face watermark synchronization issues. These issues arise from inconsistencies in the virtual primary key (VPK) before and after watermark embedding. To address this issue, a synchronization-preserving reversible watermarking scheme for relational databases is proposed. Specifically, a hash function-based grouping mechanism is adopted to partition tuples, thereby improving resistance to VPK disruption caused by deletion attacks. In addition, a genetic algorithm is employed to optimize the secret key, aiming to reduce VPK duplication and improve…

Building digital societies as ecosystems: how recognition and repeat relationships sustain cross-community work in open source ↗
Abstract We measure cross-boundary collaboration in an open-source software (OSS) ecosystem by reconstructing the bipartite contributor–repository graph of 464 cybersecurity-focused projects and $11{,}372$ 11 , 372 contributor identities active over October 2001–May 2022, seeded from the curated Rawsec Cybersecurity Inventory. Louvain community detection identifies 163 non-singleton communities; per-community contributor count scales superlinearly with repository count ( $n_{\mathrm{contributors}}\sim {n_{\mathrm{repos}}}^{1.4}$ n contributors ∼ n repos 1.4 ), and community formation follows a…

How to assess evidence about Software
Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
