THE INTERNET IS THINKING
Earlier sources: Security
Digital security protects systems, software, accounts, and information from misuse. Explore cybersecurity, vulnerabilities, threat intelligence, cryptography, privacy, and identity, with links to the underlying advisories and research.
SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.
Open in the map ↗646 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.
Earlier sources
Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

NAD-CD: Addressing concept drift in network IDS alert classification for Security Operations Centers ↗
A Network Intrusion Detection System (network IDS or NIDS) is a widely used technology to enhance an organization’s security posture. A NIDS monitors the organizational network for cyber attacks, malware activity, and other malicious network traffic, raising alerts upon detecting such traffic. Unfortunately, NIDS technologies are known to generate large numbers of alerts daily, which can overwhelm security analysts in Security Operations Centers (SOCs). To address this, Machine Learning (ML)-based NIDS alert classification methods have been proposed in the research literature. However, previou…

SLC25A28 is a synthetic lethal vulnerability in nucleotide excision repair-deficient cancers ↗
Approximately 10% of bladder, upper urinary tract, and endometrial cancers harbor deleterious somatic alterations in nucleotide excision repair (NER) pathway genes. Although platinum-based chemotherapy is the standard treatment for NER-deficient tumors, its utility is limited by nephrotoxicity, motivating alternative strategies that avoid direct DNA targeting. Here, we employed a genome-wide CRISPR-Cas9 screen to identify synthetic lethal vulnerabilities in NER-deficient cancer cells. An ERCC4-null RT112/84 bladder cancer cell line was generated and validated by Sanger sequencing and Western b

Our digital privacy is being aggressively disbanded this week ↗
Google has started 70+ unique trackers the last 24 hours which bring it on my phone to at least 130 unique trackers i could find. Reddit is up to 149 unique trackers. My phone is being pinged 8 (EIGHT.) TIMES. A. SECOND. You cant delete or change any of these settings from google or it breaks the app and just reinstalls it fresh on your next battery restart. TranScope: What the Software Hides About LLM Training Data, the Hardware Reveals at Scale, and Accelerators Magnify ↗
Membership is the root privacy primitive in machine learning: to date, no hardware-based out-of-distribution detection on black-box models has been demonstrated against constant-time, static neural networks with masked confidence. This paper performs the first cycle-level examination of how large language models and vision transformers interact with various modern microarchitecture components, including integrated accelerators, as LLMs scale in size and answers the question of whether the data that a model was trained on affects its execution footprint even without any input-dependent branch,…

Private online learning and prediction for Littlestone classes ↗
We study mistake bounds for differentially private online learning and online prediction under oblivious realisable adversaries. Online learning requires the learner to release a hypothesis at each time step whereas in online prediction, the learner only needs to make predictions without releasing a hypothesis. Using a novel lower bound for private online learning and an upper bound for private prediction, we show that the sample complexity of these two problems are separated by a factor that grows with the time horizon for every class of finite Littlestone dimension $d$. First, we prove that…

How to assess evidence about Security
Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
