Earlier sources: Security

Digital security protects systems, software, accounts, and information from misuse. Explore cybersecurity, vulnerabilities, threat intelligence, cryptography, privacy, and identity, with links to the underlying advisories and research.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

644 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Efficient Secure Federated Learning via Information-Theoretically Secure Key Distribution: A Medical Imaging Case Study ↗

Federated Learning (FL) enables collaborative training of models across institutions without centralizing sensitive data, making it well-suited for privacy-concerned applications, such as medical imaging. To protect FL model updates during secure aggregation, additive masking is commonly employed. However, its underlying classical key establishment is only computationally secure. On the other hand, physics-based Information-Theoretically Secure (ITS) key exchange introduces practical constraints: finite key generation rates and time-limited storage severely limit throughput and sustained train…

RAISED: Self-Distillation for Robustness to Prompt Injection in LLM Agents ↗

Tool-using language-model agents are vulnerable to indirect prompt injection because they must act on untrusted external content. Existing training-time defenses can reduce attack success rates, but often at the cost of general capabilities. We show that training-based defenses induce substantial drift in the model's output distribution, altering its behavior even in benign settings and providing a potential mechanism for utility degradation. We further identify a failure mode of these defenses: On benign tool-use tasks, the model refrains from a step needed to finish an authorized task, parti…

Correct Verdicts, Flawed Reasoning: Structured Auditing of LLM-based Vulnerability Reasoning ↗

Large Language Models (LLMs) are increasingly deployed for automated software vulnerability analysis. Binary classification alone is insufficient; practitioners need explanations to triage bugs and engineer patches. Standard practice relies on Chain-of-Thought (CoT) prompting, but free-form reasoning allows models to obscure logical leaps, hallucinated execution steps, and internal inconsistencies behind plausible prose. Our manual audit reveals that approximately 60% of correct vulnerability verdicts are accompanied by fabricated or unverifiable claims, and free-form explanations allow reason…

Explicit Nonlinear Functions beyond the Fourier bound ↗

    We study the problem of constructing highly nonlinear vectorial maps $F: \mathbb F_2^n \to \mathbb F_2^m$. Concretely, we want an $F$ and an $A = A(m,n)> 0$ as small as possible, so that for every affine map $L: \mathbb F_2^n \to \mathbb F_2^m$ (of the form $L(x) = M x + b $) we have: $$\mathrm{agree}(F, L) := |\{ x \in \mathbb F_2^n \mid F(x) = L(x) \}| \leq A.$$ Such questions have been studied by Nyberg (1991,1993), Carlet and Ding (2004,2007), Liu, Mesnager and Chen (2017), Nagy (2025), and Biryukov, Turecek, and Udovenko (2026). There is a classical method of constructing such functions f…

Watermarking: from Impossibility to Auditable Compliance ↗

Article 50 (2) of the EU Artificial Intelligence Act requires providers of generative systems to make synthetic outputs machine-readable and detectable, while qualifying the effectiveness, interoperability, robustness, and reliability by technical feasibility, cost, content-specific limits, and the state of the art. For free-form text, one important implementation route is the implementation of a generative watermarking procedure, which poses a compliance problem that is hard to address. Strong watermarking is impossible against adaptive removal, while ordinary edits attenuate statistical evid…

Cryptanalysis of a Class of Ideal Secret Sharing Schemes Based on the CRT for Polynomial Rings ↗

Based on the CRT for polynomial rings, Yang, Zhu, Fu and Xia (ISIT 2026) proposed a compartmented secret sharing scheme for the compartmented access structure with lower bounds, claiming it can be ideal. We exhibit three families of unauthorized subsets that reconstruct the secret. The scheme is therefore insecure, except for a degenerate choice of parameters in which the only authorized subset is the whole participant set. The flaw in the security analysis is that it does not take all published polynomials into account. Similar flaws appear in the same first author's hierarchical schemes (ISI…

SatBleed: Security of Commoditized Communication Modules in Satellites ↗

Substantial reduction in launch and manufacturing costs has resulted in the accelerated deployment of small satellite missions, with commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components becoming the prevailing standard for specific subsystems. However, this modular architecture introduces critical security risks, most notably in the Communication Subsystem (COM), which is continuously exposed by design and implicitly trusted as the entry point for command and control. We construct a tailored threat taxonomy for attacks targeting the COM subsystem and analyze representative COM systems from various vendo…

How to assess evidence about Security

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
