Earlier sources: Identity

This security thread follows identity through original research, public projects, and source reports. Read the evidence below to see which developments are represented in SYMTRI’s archive.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

28 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Complementary Molecular and Spectroscopic Approaches for Meat Authentication: Real-Time PCR Detection of Porcine DNA and FT-NIR Analysis of Slaughter-Related Biochemical Changes ↗

Food adulteration and species mislabeling represent important challenges for food safety, regulatory control, and consumer protection, particularly for products requiring species-specific authentication. This study investigated two complementary analytical approaches relevant to meat authentication: species-specific real-time polymerase chain reaction (real-time PCR) for the molecular detection of porcine mitochondrial deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and Fourier-transform near-infrared (FT-NIR) spectroscopy combined with chemometric analysis for exploratory assessment of slaughter-related composit…

Secure temporal-policy access control for time-correlated semantic communication in 6G edge networks ↗

Semantic communication is expected to become a foundational technology in 6G edge intelligence networks, enabling end devices to transmit task-relevant semantic features rather than symbol-level data. However, semantic streams are highly time-correlated and often reveal latent identity or contextual information, making them vulnerable to inference attacks when processed by semi-trusted edge servers. Moreover, existing privacy-preserving mechanisms lack the ability to provide stateless, fine-grained temporal authorization while maintaining the ultra-low latency required by 6G applications. This…

Design and Development of Secure Authentication Protocol for Data Encryption in IoT ↗

This paper devises a secure authentication technique in the Internet of Things (IoT) using the proposed Firefly Invasive Weed optimization (FIWO)-based authentication approach. The authentication technique devised for IoT allows secure communication among the devices. The proposed model comprises three entities, namely IoT devices, IoT servers and trusted centers (TC). These entities start with setup and initialization, registration, key generation, authentication, data encryption, validation, data sharing, and decryption before adding authentication and data encryption. In this case, the data…

Contextual Chain: Lightweight Continuity Authentication for Intermittently Connected Devices ↗

Can authentication make memory, rather than computational hardness, the attacker's bottleneck? Contextual Chain is a lightweight continuity protocol for intermittently connected devices that share evolving physical or operational context. An honest device follows one realized history, updating a compact accumulator and fixed hash-based readiness lanes; outages cause pause or bounded rollback, not branch search. After the epoch is frozen, a fresh challenge selects one lane under a short deadline. An outsider that missed context may therefore need to prepare for many mature histories before lear…

Show HN: Counterbranch – See how your PR changes access control ↗

Hi, we just released Counterbranch as a GitHub Action (alpha) and are looking for feedback. The action scans your codebase looking for unintended changes to authorization. This can happen in custom code, endpoints, guards, rbac, abac, policy-as-code files, etc. and can lead to broken access control or data exposure. The scanner doesn't use LLMs and is blazing fast. The results show up as a comment on each pull request so you can maintain and impr…

Post quantum federated authentication framework for Industrial Internet of Things using FALCON threshold signatures and zero knowledge verification ↗

Abstract Distributed authentication techniques enable edge device trust in smart manufacturing and energy infrastructure Industrial Internet of Things contexts. Existing blockchain-based authentication schemes mostly use the elliptic curve digital signature algorithm, which can be exploited by quantum adversaries using harvest-now, decrypt-later attacks to record authenticated communications for cryptanalysis. CIPHER-QNL, a post-quantum federated authentication framework, integrates three complementary mechanisms: (1) FALCON threshold signature aggregation with federated polynomial key shardin…

Certification of Real Images through Calibrated Content Authentication ↗

Generative models can synthesize high-quality inauthentic multimedia content that is already being misused at scale. We evaluate twenty deepfake detectors against ten generators released in the last four years and find accuracy decreasing over time, from near-perfect 99.5% to 76%. Adversarial perturbations further reduce every baseline detector to below 2% accuracy, effectively inverting the detector's assigned label. We argue that this unreliability reflects a fundamental ambiguity: generators can reproduce authentic content exactly (e.g., through memorization), so content alone cannot reveal…

Risk-Adaptive Security Authorization for Critical Information Infrastructure: A Remediation-First Framework for Dynamic Target Security Profiles ↗

Security authorization relies on a target security profile that is relatively stable, whereas threats, exposure, control health, and assessment evidence change continuously. We present a two-stage decision-support model that separates operational remediation from structural insufficiency of an already authorized profile. The first stage tests whether an assurance-adjusted authorization-risk index can be restored to tolerance using admissible actions while the profile remains fixed. Only when this problem is infeasible does the second stage generate a minimum-burden candidate profile for assess…

Quantum spectral authentication: entity authentication and key derivation from a hidden eigenstate of a public unitary challenge ↗

Abstract We introduce Quantum Spectral Authentication (QSA), a symmetric-key entity-authentication and key-derivation protocol in which a remote endpoint proves it still holds a hidden planted state, an eigenstate of the challenge it can prepare, without revealing it. Each round issues a fresh public unitary challenge with its own planted state, and the endpoint returns an eigenphase feature from which both parties derive transcript-bound session material. QSA runs in two provisioning modes with materially different security: a seed mode , storing a classical seed that regenerates the planted…

How to assess evidence about Identity

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
