Earlier sources: Cryptography

This security thread follows cryptography through original research, public projects, and source reports. Read the evidence below to see which developments are represented in SYMTRI’s archive.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

44 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Time-space lower bounds for breaking quantum cryptography ↗

We prove near-optimal time-space lower bounds for breaking quantum cryptography in the random oracle model. Specifically, we show that a $T$-query adversary with $S$ qubits of non-uniform advice can recover a random key $k$ from the $n$-qubit binary phase state $|ψ_k\rangle \propto \sum_{x} R(k,x) |x\rangle$ with probability at most $O(\frac{T^2 + \sqrt{ST}}{N})$ for $N=2^n$. In contrast, the best known bound for post-quantum one-way functions is $O(\frac{T^2 + ST}{N})$, with a trivial attack at $S = N$. This demonstrates a new advantage of quantum cryptography over classical cryptography: $n$…

Homomorphic Advantage Operator: Stabilizing Reinforcement Learning Under Fully Homomorphic Encryption Constraints ↗

Privacy-preserving machine learning presents significant deployment challenges on the cloud for intelligent systems with confidential data. Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE) offers a compelling solution for secure computation, preserving data confidentiality of cloud computations. However, applying FHE to reinforcement learning (RL) requires replacing non-linear operations with polynomial approximations, which diverge catastrophically due to a unique recursive error phenomenon known as the Bellman drift. This article introduces the Homomorphic Advantage Operator (HAO), a stabilization framewo…

Can AI Oversight Be Zero Knowledge? ↗

AI systems increasingly produce outputs from confidential data, such as a fitness-for-duty assessment from medical records or the predicted properties of a drug candidate from its secret structure. It is important to verify that such outputs are correct without revealing the underlying data. A recent line of work studies verification of AI outputs via interactive proofs and debate for oracle-aided computation, where correctness may depend on an oracle such as human judgment, a physical experiment, or the web. These works focus on verification by a verifier that runs much faster than the comput…

Need for Coherent Access in Constructing Quantum Cryptography ↗

We construct quantum oracles relative to which quantum-secure one-way functions (OWFs) exist but pseudorandom states (PRSs) with superlogarithmic output length do not. At first glance, this appears to contradict the known black-box constructions of PRS generators from quantum-secure OWFs. The distinction lies in the access model to the oracles; our oracle separation uses \emph{classical-accessible} random oracles that can be accessed only classically even by quantum algorithms. In fact, our impossibility of PRSs applies to \emph{any} classically accessible classical oracle in place of the rand…

Semi-Quantum Cryptography with Certified Deletion ↗

Certified deletion allows a client to upload encrypted data to a server as a quantum state, then later request that the server delete their data and detect whether the server complies. If verification passes, then the data on the server will remain hidden even if the decryption key is later leaked. In publicly verifiable certified deletion, the verification key is published so that anyone may check for deletion compliance. In this work, we give a general compiler to publicly verifiable certified deletion that allows the client to initially upload the *quantum* ciphertext using purely *classica…

Raft-Consistent Metadata with GPU-Accelerated Encryption for Secure HDFS ↗

In today’s cloud computing environments, large-scale data infrastructures like Hadoop are facingsevere challenges in providing efficient and secure static storage; these challenges stem fromlimitations in single algorithm encryption schemes as well as metadata management instability. This paper proposes a co-designed architecture demonstrating that metadata consistency andhigh-throughput encryption can be achieved simultaneously without performance trade-offs. Ourapproach integrates two components: (1) a Raft-consistent metadata service (RCMS) that replaces thesingle-point-of-failure NameNode w…

How to assess evidence about Cryptography

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
