Earlier sources: Energy
Energy research and engineering concern how power is produced, stored, delivered, and consumed. Follow solar and nuclear power, fusion, geothermal systems, batteries, electricity grids, and changing power demand.
SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.
Open in the map ↗746 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.
Earlier sources
Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Optimizing FeNiCrAlCu high entropy superalloy design: Integrating thermodynamic calculations, first-principles, and machine learning for enhanced stacking fault energy modeling ↗
High-entropy superalloys (HESA) are promising alternatives to traditional superalloys, offering enhanced performance, greater sustainability, and increased cost-effectiveness for applications involving elevated temperatures. This research centers on Fe-based HESA, emphasizing the critical role of stacking fault energy (SFE) on the mechanisms of deformation and creep. By using Fe as the base alloy instead of Ni, the development becomes more economical. We introduce an innovative approach for predicting SFE through a combination of machine learning and computational thermodynamics. Additionally,…

A Comparative Study of Deep Time-Series Models for Lithium-Ion Battery State-of-Health Prediction ↗
Model rankings in battery SOH prediction can change with the input representation and battery split. This study therefore evaluated five deep time-series models—Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU), PatchTST, TimesNet, and ModernTCN—on the NASA battery aging dataset under chronological and cross-battery protocols using the same input pipeline. The chronological protocol predicts later cycles of B0005, B0006, and B0007, whereas the cross-battery protocol trains on these three batteries and evaluates on the unseen B0018 battery. All models use the same 20-cycle input window…

Joint design of cell layout and balancing circuit for uniform aging in unmanned aerial vehicle battery packs ↗
In a compact unmanned-aerial-vehicle (UAV) battery pack, the interior cells become hotter than the perimeter cells and therefore age faster. A series string is limited by its weakest cell, and this aging non-uniformity is fixed once the hardware is built. The module layout and the active-balancing circuit are usually selected separately, so this effect remains outside the design loop. In this work, we treat the layout, the balancing-topology family, and the conductor sizing as joint pre-fabrication variables, enumerate the small admissible design space, and score every candidate by a coupled e…

Neural surrogate-based model predictive control for compressed air energy storage ↗
Compressed air energy storage is a promising technology for large-scale, long-duration energy storage in renewable-integrated power systems. However, accurate modeling and control of compressed air energy storage under realistic operating conditions remain challenging due to the tightly coupled thermodynamic processes involving multi-stage compression, heat exchange, cavern storage, and expansion, all of which interact under off-design conditions. This thesis develops a learning-based framework for the modeling and control of adiabatic compressed air energy storage systems under off-design ope…

Photon production from gluon splitting and fusion induced by a magnetic field of arbitrary strength in relativistic heavy-ion collisions ↗
We compute the yield and elliptic flow coefficient for photons produced during the pre-equilibrium stage of semi-central relativistic heavy-ion collisions from the gluon fusion and splitting processes induced by the presence of a magnetic field. The calculation is performed for arbitrary values of the field strength. The pre-equilibrium gluon distribution is modeled with a glasma-inspired Bose-Einstein occupation factor, as well as with an anisotropic distribution that accounts for the rapid initial expansion along the beam axis. In both cases, we find a very good agreement between the calcula…

Families of regular spacetimes and energy conditions ↗
We present a systematic method for constructing static, spherically symmetric regular spacetimes in general relativity satisfying the weak energy condition. Our approach relies on physically reasonable assumptions on the matter energy density, together with the boundedness of the Kretschmann scalar. The latter property ensures the finiteness of all curvature invariants and, for the configurations considered, is equivalent to the completeness of causal geodesics. By classifying admissible density profiles according to their complexity, we recover well-known regular black hole solutions such as…

Accurately modeling long-term storage with minimum representative hours in large-scale renewable energy systems ↗
Energy system optimization often relies on time series aggregation to ensure computational tractability. Aggregation generally loses the chronology of time steps, which renders the storage level representation challenging. Typically, this challenge is addressed by using representative days (RD) to utilize intra-day chronology, even though representative hours (RH) can describe the input time series more accurately at fewer representative time steps than RD. However, until now, the use of RH storage representation methods has been limited by either high computational complexity, poor accuracy i…

Free Energy and Diffusivity in the Fokker–Planck Theory of Polymer Translocation ↗
Abstract A robust theoretical framework describing polymer translocation through nanopores is important for developing novel applications of nanopore technology in single-molecule characterization of biological and synthetic polymers. In this work, we revisit the Fokker–Planck based theory of driven polymer translocation through a narrow nanopore. A bead–spring model of a uniformly charged polyelectrolyte chain translocating through a semi-implicit model of a nanopore embedded in a membrane are used to gain insights into the underlying free energy landscape and kinetics of translocation. The f…

Inverse energy transfer in three-dimensional quantum vortex flows ↗
Vortex reconnections play a fundamental role in fluids. They increase the complexity of flow and develop small-scale motions. In this work, we report that in superfluids, they can also excite large scales. We numerically illustrate that during a superfluid vortex reconnection energy is injected into the thermal (normal) component of helium~II at small length scales, but is transferred nonlinearly to larger length scales, increasing the integral length scale of the normal fluid. We show, by studying about fifty different reconnections, that this inverse energy transfer is triggered by the helical…

How to assess evidence about Energy
Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
