Earlier sources: Energy
Energy research and engineering concern how power is produced, stored, delivered, and consumed. Follow solar and nuclear power, fusion, geothermal systems, batteries, electricity grids, and changing power demand.
SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.
Open in the map ↗729 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.
Earlier sources
Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Industrial-Scale Thermophilic Anaerobic Digestion of Untreated Cafeteria Waste: Techno-Economic Assessment of Renewable Energy and Digestate Valorization ↗
Thermophilic anaerobic digestion (TAD) of solid organic wastes for biogas production offers dual human-health and environmental benefits: source-separated waste management with reduced pathogen burden and renewable energy generation with reduced greenhouse-gas emissions. This study investigated a “Techno-Economic Assessment (TEA)” of an industrial-scale TAD process integrated with combined heat and power (CHP) generation and alternative digestate-management strategies. Two processing capacities, 7000 tons/year (Case I) and 2000 tons/year (Case II), were evaluated under four digestate-managemen…

A computational fluid dynamics based analysis of coupled thermal and electrochemical processes in lithium-ion battery cells ↗
This study presents a computationally efficient lumped electrochemical–thermal solver implemented in OpenFOAM, decomposing cell voltage into open-circuit, ohmic, activation, and concentration overpotentials with Arrhenius temperature dependence and Fickian diffusion in idealized particles. The implicit Backward Euler discretization with Thomas Algorithm achieves 44–53 × speedup over explicit schemes, enabling 100 × larger time steps while maintaining stability. Validation against a commercial benchmark under 4C discharge demonstrates excellent agreement, with mean absolute percentage errors of…

Mechanical Characterization of Single-Layer Ceramic-Coated Battery Separators and Finite Element Modeling of Their Deformation ↗
Mechanical characterization of battery separators provides inputs for material-level finite element models. This study investigates components extracted from a commercial 37 Ah graphite/NMC pouch cell, focusing on single layers of an Al2O3-coated polyolefin separator conditioned in salt-free EC:DMC. Through-thickness compression of single layers is compared with 34-layer stacks and previously reported 100-layer data for the same separator and conditioning; both stack configurations show similar trends that differ from the single-layer response. Tensile tests characterize the machine and transv…

A scenario-based evaluation framework for renewable capacity scale and photovoltaic capacity ratio in a hydro–wind–photovoltaic–pumped-storage hybrid energy system ↗
Renewable-capacity planning in hydro–wind–photovoltaic–pumped-storage hybrid energy systems is jointly affected by wind–photovoltaic output, inflow, renewable capacity, and photovoltaic capacity ratio, yet their coupled effects on operation and capacity preference remain unclear. This study develops a scenario-based resource–operation–capacity evaluation framework for a cascade hydropower–wind–photovoltaic–pumped-storage system. Five cumulative-probability levels of wind–photovoltaic joint output and five hydrological exceedance-frequency levels form 25 combined scenarios. Normalized historica…

First-Principles Modeling of Charge Transfer Excitons in Organic Solar Cells ↗
Abstract Charge-transfer (CT) excitons formed at donor–acceptor interfaces play a central role in charge separation in organic solar cells. Their binding energy and spatial structure are highly sensitive to local molecular geometry, particularly in disordered morphologies. In this work, we present a multiscale computational framework to model CT excitons at the interface between poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) and the nonfullerene acceptor O-IDTBR, a representative polymer-nonfullerene blend. We extend a previously developed tight-binding model to include kinetic energy, Coulomb interaction and…

Study on the Pulse Energy Mechanism and Material Removal Characteristics of EDM Based on Magnetic-Levitation Micro-Motion Compensation ↗
Material removal rate and material removal per unit energy are key indicators for evaluating EDM efficiency. By studying the relationship between these indicators and EDM discharge parameters, it is possible to improve machining efficiency and material removal performance. Taking the EDM structure with magnetic-levitation micro-motion compensation as the research object, this paper combines the dynamic levitation position of the moving electrode with the formula of the gap between electrodes and establishes a mathematical model among the macroscopic feed position of the spindle, the dynamic co…

Evaluating the global economy-wide impact of energy efficiency policies in buildings ↗
The building sector accounts for nearly one-third of global final energy use. A range of energy efficiency policies can help reduce energy consumption in the sector. These policies include building energy codes, which improve energy efficiency in new buildings, as well as retrofit programs and whole-building performance standards, which address efficiency of existing buildings. In this study, we use the Global Change Analysis Model to assess the impacts of these policies on building energy use and other key outcomes globally and across regions. Additionally, we explore how compliance rates inf…

CFD investigation of hydrodynamic interaction and optimal spacing in a three-body point absorber wave energy converter array ↗
The hydrodynamic study of multiple arrays of point-absorber wave energy converters is carried out. The aim is to determine the optimum interfloat spacing between wave energy converters to maximize the array's performance. Multiple factors are examined at different wave heights and different spacing ratios: Response Amplitude Operator (RAO), Harmonic Ratio (HR), phase difference, interaction factor (q-factor), absorbed power, and Capture Width Ratio (CWR). Based on the three body simulations of point absorber wave energy converter and wave conditions, L/D = 1.5 is identified as the overall opti…

Machine Learning-Based Electric Vehicle Remaining Range Prediction: Assessing the Relative Impact of Battery Status, Driving Context, and Environmental Conditions ↗
This study presents a comprehensive machine learning (ML) evaluation methodology, grounded in physical principles, for range estimation in battery-electric vehicles (BEVs). In a simulation environment consisting of 50 driving and 12 virtual vehicles, 2000 observations were generated by classifying 23 input variables into three main categories: battery and energy status (SOC, voltage, current, battery power, rolling energy consumption, SOH, battery temperature, regenerative power), driving and route context (speed, acceleration, cumulative distance, route gradient, traffic density, driving styl…

Structure–Performance Interplay and Mechanical Degradation Modes in Lithium Cobalt Oxide Cathodes: Implications for Flexible Lithium-Ion Battery Design ↗
Lithium cobalt oxide (LCO) remains the industry-standard cathode for lithium-ion batteries in consumer electronics, but its mechanical reliability under repeated deformation—a critical requirement for flexible and wearable devices—has not been systematically investigated. Here, as-manufactured LCO electrodes are subjected to repeated bending (up to 3000 cycles) at diameters of 100, 50, and 25 mm, followed by post-bending electrochemical, microstructure, and electrical characterization. Bending-induced degradation mechanisms are found to be strongly impacted by the LCO particle size. Coarse-par…

How to assess evidence about Energy
Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
