Earlier sources: Energy

Energy research and engineering concern how power is produced, stored, delivered, and consumed. Follow solar and nuclear power, fusion, geothermal systems, batteries, electricity grids, and changing power demand.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

754 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

DAA-YOLOv8s with downsampling aware high resolution fusion for real time tiny vehicle detection in UAV imagery ↗

Detecting very small vehicles in UAV imagery remains challenging due to severe scale variations, dense object distributions, diverse viewing directions, and the loss of fine-grained spatial information caused by repeated downsampling. To address these limitations, we propose DAA-YOLOv8s (Downsampling-Aware Architecture for YOLOv8s), a lightweight detection framework that explicitly preserves high-resolution spatial information for improved tiny-object localization in aerial scenes. The proposed model integrates a Multi-Receptive Field Downsampling (MRFD) module, a C2f-Partial Residual Bottlene…

Simulation Optimization of Energy Consumption at the Iron–Steel Interface Based on “Laminar-Flow Operation” ↗

This paper studies the “one-ladle” technique at the “blast furnace–converter interface” in long steel production and proposes an optimization scheme based on laminar-flow operation to reduce energy consumption from long hot-metal ladle turnover and large temperature drops. A representative steel plant was analyzed using a simulation model coupling hot-metal flow, temperature, and time factors, reflecting typical transfer paths. Flexsim (version 2024.2.2) software was used to examine the effects of ladle quantity, railcar capacity, and operating schemes on temperature drop and turnover time. Re…

Effects of Frontal Area and Road Characteristics on the Energy Efficiency of Electric Buses: A Simulation Study ↗

In this study, the energy consumption of a 10.5 m, 12,500 kg electric bus was modelled in MATLAB/Simulink under varying frontal areas and road conditions. Vehicle specifications were kept constant, while only frontal area and the rolling resistance coefficient, depending on road conditions, were altered. The analysis was based on the first and second trapezoids (30 km/h and 50 km/h) of the SORT-3 cycle. The results indicate that increasing the frontal area by 20% raised the energy consumption by approximately 2–3%. In contrast, the influence of road surface was far more significant, with grave…

Photovoltaic-energy storage hybrid electric spring based on three-port converters ↗

The large-scale integration of renewable energy sources (RES) into the power grid has led to an imbalance between supply and demand, thereby increasing the demand for energy storage. As an emerging demand-side management technology, the Electric Spring (ES) can effectively mitigate the demand for energy storage by transferring power fluctuations to non-critical loads (NCLs). However, almost all existing ESs adopt a single-input voltage-source-inverter (VSI) as the main circuit, which undoubtedly limits their ability to integrate multiple inputs and their power compensation performance. To addr…

Multi-Objective Optimization of Energy Use, Thermal Comfort, and Carbon Emissions in an Underground Supermarket ↗

Underground supermarkets are characterized by high occupant density, long operating hours, and substantial internal loads, creating competing demands for energy efficiency, thermal comfort, and carbon reduction. This study investigates the coordinated optimization of these performance objectives for a single-level underground supermarket in Xuzhou, China. Energy use intensity (EUI), occupied-hour discomfort time ratio (DTR), and carbon emissions from retrofit-material production (A1–A3) and operational energy use (B6) were adopted as objectives. Eleven envelope, overburden, morphology, and ope…

Neutron flux characterization of the P1 irradiation position in the MU research reactor ↗

The neutron flux in the P1 irradiation position, located within the outer graphite reflector of the University of Missouri Research Reactor (MURR), was characterized through a combined experimental and computational approach. Activation data from cobalt, molybdenum, iron, and nickel flux wires were analyzed using the STAYSL-PNNL software suite to generate an adjusted neutron spectrum utilizing the SAND-II 640-group energy structure. This unfolded spectrum was compared against Monte Carlo simulations performed with MCNP6.3 using a detailed model of the MURR core and reflector region. Agreement…

Experimental Demonstration of Correlation-Assisted Energy Extraction Gain ↗

Within the framework of microscopic thermodynamics, correlations can play a crucial role in energy extraction. We experimentally investigated the link between information encoded in tunable correlations and its utility for feedback-assisted energy transfer. We realized an agent-demon protocol involving two trapped-ion qubits and show that an appropriate feedback policy increases the average energy stored in the demon qubit by capitalizing on correlations between the constituents. For the chosen family of nearly pure resource states, we quantify both the concurrence and the feedback-assisted en…

Mitigating Low Pressure in Draft Tubes of Pumped-Storage Units by Installing Tailwater Connection Pipes Under Successive Load Rejection Conditions: Mechanism and Effectiveness Analysis ↗

The large-scale integration of intermittent renewable energy has increased operating-condition transitions in pumped storage hydropower plants, thereby raising the probability of successive load rejection (SLR) and associated hydraulic transient risks. To mitigate the severe low draft tube pressure (DTP) commonly induced by SLR, this study proposes installing a tailwater connection pipe (TWCP) between the draft tubes of adjacent units. The mitigation mechanism and performance are investigated through theoretical modeling and three-dimensional numerical simulations. Results show that the first…

Impact of possible nuclear phase-out strategies in Spain for a sustainable energy transition ↗

Spain's long-term energy strategy combines rapid renewable expansion with the progressive phase-out of nuclear power by 2035. Since the timing of reactor retirements can significantly affect the long-term electricity balance, this study compares four nuclear phase-out scenarios: the current official retirement schedule (SCN_40) and three lifetime-extension pathways allowing reactor operation up to 50, 55, and 60 years (SCN_50, SCN_55, and SCN_60, respectively). All scenarios use the same demand and renewable deployment trajectories. A target-driven daily simulation developed with LEAF-EB combi…

PIAS1 circRNA-translated novel protein inhibits NF-κB signaling pathway by promoting the nuclear translocation of TAB2 and impedes pyroptosis in colon cancer ↗

Colon cancer (CC) is one of the most prevalent malignant tumors and is associated with a poor prognosis. Pyroptosis plays an important role in colon cancer. However, the specific regulatory mechanisms require further exploration. Previous studies have confirmed the association between PIAS1 and NF-κB signaling pathway. Notably, the link between PIAS1 and pyroptosis has not been reported. Circular non-coding RNAs (circRNAs) play a crucial role in cancer progression and the proteins encoded by circRNAs often substitute for host genes and play a significant role in the progression of cancer. The…

How to assess evidence about Energy

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
