Thermogravimetric kinetic study of low-rank coal pyrolysis over Fe–TiO2 and Fe–HZSM-5 catalysts: Activation energy and reaction mechanism analysis ↗

Low-rank coal (LRC) is an abundant energy resource, but restricted by high moisture content, high volatile matter, and low calorific value. Therefore, in this study, the influence of the physicochemical properties of LRC and Fe–TiO 2 and Fe–HZSM-5 catalysts on pyrolysis kinetics, as well as the activation energy (E a ) and reaction mechanisms under both conventional and microwave-induced heating are systematically studied. The non-isothermal thermogravimetric analysis was performed based on the Coats–Redfern integral kinetic model to evaluate key kinetic parameters. Full characterization of th…

Unveiling the energy metabolism of primiparous F1 Holstein × Gyr cows throughout lactation ↗

Crossbreeding is central to dairy production in the tropics, where combining adaptability and productivity is essential. The Brazilian Girolando, a synthetic breed originating from Bos indicus Gyr and Bos taurus Holstein genes, successfully exemplifies this strategy. While F1 Holstein × Gyr cows seem to thrive under tropical conditions, their growth dynamics and energy use throughout lactation remain largely unknown. This study aims to fill this gap by describing the performance, milk composition, and energy intake and utilization of primiparous F1 Holstein × Gyr cows over 294 days in milk. We…

Research on Energy-Saving Renovation of Building Envelope Structures in Rural Areas of Central Plains of China ↗

Rural residential buildings in China’s Central Plains region suffer from poor envelope thermal performance, resulting in severe thermal discomfort and excessive energy consumption for both winter heating and summer cooling. This study presents a systematic three-in-one envelope retrofit strategy (roof, exterior walls, and windows, with supplementary door replacement) tailored to the region’s cold climate zone (GB 50176-2016, Zone IIB; HDD18 = 2309 °C·d, CDD26 = 131 °C·d), which experiences hot summers and cold winters and thus requires both effective winter insulation and summer heat protectio…

Design and activity evaluation of long-acting IFN-α2a-ELP fusion proteins ↗

Recombinant interferon-α2a (IFN-α2a) has clinically relevant antiviral and antitumor activity, but its short systemic half-life limits durable exposure after intermittent dosing. Elastin-like polypeptides (ELPs) offer a genetically encoded strategy for extending protein residence time through an expected increase in hydrodynamic size and thermally triggered depot formation. We designed two ELP 120 -based IFN-α2a fusion proteins, ELP 120 -IFN-α2a and IFN-α2a-ELP 120 , to compare the effect of fusion orientation on biophysical behavior, receptor engagement, in vitro activity, pharmacokinetics, a…

Cross‐Scale Energy Transfer and Scale‐to‐Scale Energy Conversion During the Collisionless Magnetic Reconnection ↗

Abstract This study investigates cross‐scale energy transfer (CET) and scale‐to‐scale energy conversion (SEC) during magnetic reconnection by employing the scale‐filtering approach in a particle‐in‐cell simulation. Our analysis reveals fundamentally distinct CET patterns for electrons and ions. Electron CET is primarily governed by the flow CET. Ion CET is dominated by the thermal CET. Both electrons and ions gain thermal energy through the pressure–strain interaction near their respective inertial scales. The generated thermal energy is transferred back to larger scales via an inverse energy…

Effect of process gas composition on laser-powder-substrate interaction, powder degradation and build quality in Laser-Directed Energy deposition of IN718 ↗

This work investigates the impact of the deposition environment on laser-substrate-powder interactions during Laser-Directed Energy Deposition ( L -DED) of IN718, correlating powder characteristics and thermal history with bead quality and mechanical behaviour. Five gas environments were investigated by varying the centring, shaping and carrier gas compositions (all-Ar, all-N 2 , centre-N 2 , shape-N 2 and carrier-N 2 ). Using N 2 as centring gas minimized the Ar plasma plume, improving laser energy transfer to meltpool and increasing dilution, while bead width remained constant (∼1.6 mm) acro…

Reinforcement learning-based adaptive coordination of solar energy for load, battery, electric vehicle, and hydrogen storage ↗

The intermittency of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems creates critical challenges in real-time energy coordination, multi-energy routing, and long-duration storage management that conventional rule-based controllers fail to resolve under uncertainty. Battery storage capacity limitations necessitate complementary hydrogen storage for long-duration energy resilience, yet no unified framework has effectively coordinated both with PV generation, load demand, and grid interaction in real time. To address these gaps, a hybrid energy-management framework is proposed that integrates PV generation, batt…

Sustainable energy management and deep reinforcement learning–based resource allocation in 5G networks for autonomous vehicle communications ↗

Autonomous vehicles (AVs) and 5G wireless networks need low latency, reliability, and energy efficiency. AVs generate massive amounts of heterogeneous, real-time data, requiring efficient energy and resource allocation for large-scale vehicular communications. Vehicles with fast mobility patterns, channel conditions, and traffic intensity challenge typical optimization algorithms. In this study, a Deep Reinforcement Learning–based Energy-Aware Resource Allocation (DRL-EARA) framework for sustainable 5G vehicle networks is presented. The MDP-modeled DRL agent communicates with the network envir…
