Earlier sources: Energy
Energy research and engineering concern how power is produced, stored, delivered, and consumed. Follow solar and nuclear power, fusion, geothermal systems, batteries, electricity grids, and changing power demand.
SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.
Open in the map ↗661 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.
Earlier sources
Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Bias correction of Copernicus Marine reanalysis for western Mediterranean wave energy applications ↗
Reliable wave energy assessment requires reanalysis datasets that accurately represent wave-height and wave-period statistics, their joint occurrence, and the sea states that control device energy production. This study evaluates bias correction of the Copernicus Marine Mediterranean wave reanalysis for western Mediterranean wave energy applications using collocated in-situ observations from seven offshore sites. Biases in significant wave height ( H s ) and mean wave period ( T m 02 ) are quantified and corrected using mean-based, distribution-based, and conditional quantile-based methods. In…

Optimization of Downskin Surface Quality in Laser Powder Bed Fusion of IN718 for Supportless Manufacturing ↗
Support structures remain a major limitation of laser powder bed fusion (LPBF), particularly for downward-facing surfaces prone to powder adhesion, dross formation, melt-pool instability, and staircase effects. This study investigates the downskin optimization of Inconel 718 (IN718), fabricated at a 35° inclination using a Renishaw RenAM 500S Flex. A Taguchi L25 orthogonal array was employed to evaluate three process parameters: hatch power (225–425 W), remelting times (0–4), and printing velocity (1100–1900 mm/s). Surface topography was characterized using an Alicona InfiniteFocus G5, with Sa…

LMDI-Tapio analysis and scenario-based carbon emission reduction pathways for the southern power grid region in China: insights from comparative reference regions ↗
Decarbonizing regional power systems is essential for achieving China’s carbon-neutrality targets. However, analyses conducted only at the national or provincial level may overlook the functional interdependence among electricity demand, generation structure, and cross-provincial power transfers. This study examines the southern power grid region in China, which includes Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Yunnan, and Hainan, as an integrated electricity system rather than as a simple geographical or administrative unit. This region provides a useful case because it combines energy-intensive coastal…

Fabricating Mg powder electrodes via the traditional way enhances its suitability for next-generation Mg battery prototypes ↗
Typically, Mg batteries use Mg foil as an anode with a thickness of 100–250 μm. Producing ultra-thin foils (< 50 μm) is challenging because of Mg's hardness and brittleness. Alternatively, Mg powder based anode may be a better option for Mg batteries because it is cheaper and easier to shape into electrodes. Mg powder can be combined with conductive additives such as carbon and binding polymers and subsequently cast as a slurry, allowing precise regulation of areal capacity to correspond with that of the cathode. However, Mg metal reacts with moisture and oxygen over time, forming oxide layers…

Screening of Ceramic Filler Materials for a Packed‐Bed Thermal Energy Storage System With Lead as Heat Transfer Fluid ↗
ABSTRACT Liquid lead (Pb) is an attractive heat transfer fluid (HTF) for packed‐bed thermal energy storage (TES) systems aimed for high temperatures. However, liquid Pb is corrosive and its corrosivity increases with rising temperature. Therefore, compatibility tests of possible filler materials with Pb are mandatory. This study tested the corrosion and thermal alteration of seven ceramic materials (two alumina materials, one alumina zirconia composite material, two zirconia ceramics stabilized with either yttria or ceria, and two zirconium silicates in different compositions) in liquid Pb at…

Continuous-Time Alignment and Availability-Gated Fusion of Asynchronous Multi-Rate Power System Measurements ↗
Modern power system monitoring combines phasor measurement unit (PMU) reporting at up to 60 frames per second, SCADA scans arriving every few seconds, and event records that appear at irregular instants. These streams differ in rate by two orders of magnitude and are further corrupted by communication delay, packet loss, and missing entries. Common practice interpolates all sources onto a synchronized snapshot, which introduces stale values and interpolation distortion, while most deep sequence models assume equally spaced inputs. This paper presents CT-Align, a continuous-time fusion network…

Evaluation of Microstructure and Direct Current Magnetic Properties of Soft Magnetic Steels Fabricated via Laser-Directed Energy Deposition ↗
The microstructure and magnetic properties of Fe–3.5Si–1.5Al (mass%) steel fabricated by laser-directed energy deposition (L-DED) were investigated. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) analyses revealed that the specimens consisted of coarse columnar grains extending across melt pool boundaries. A pronounced crystallographic texture aligned with the build direction was also observed, indicating epitaxial grain growth.

Boosting Charge Storage in Ferri/Ferrocyanide‐Based Alkaline Redox Flow Batteries ↗
ABSTRACT The ferri/ferrocyanide redox couple has long served as a benchmark catholyte in aqueous redox flow batteries (RBFs), particularly under highly alkaline conditions. However, the limited alkaline solubilities of commercially available Na + and K + forms constrain the attainable energy density of these systems. Here, we demonstrate that Li + substitution substantially boosts the alkaline solubility of ferri/ferrocyanide, offering a promising route to overcome the long‐standing energy density limitation. Complementary spectroscopic and computational analyses reveal a distinct solubilizati…

Fractal order-dependent nonlinear energy absorption mechanism of Menger sponge-inspired composite structures under blast loading ↗
Fractal structures, with their multi-scale self-similarity, exhibit distinctive geometric advantages and broad application potential in blast-resistant engineering. As a classic fractal model featuring a high specific surface area and low volume fraction, the Menger sponge has been widely used in acoustics and biomedicine. While existing research on Menger sponge structures has been largely limited to quasi-static compression and low-velocity impact, their application in blast loaded composite structures still offers considerable scope for exploration. To address this gap, this study proposes…

Experimental and numerical Investigation of an integrated PVT–TEC–VMED system for off-grid freshwater production ↗
Existing off-grid solar desalination systems are often constrained by inefficient thermal-energy utilization, inadequate waste-heat recovery, and unstable operation under fluctuating solar conditions, resulting in reduced freshwater productivity and overall system efficiency. To address these limitations, this study experimentally evaluated a thermally integrated hybrid freshwater production system. The system integrates a photovoltaic–thermal (PVT) collector, a thermoelectric module (TEM), a vertical multi-effect diffusion (VMED) desalination unit, and thermal and electrical energy-storage su…

How to assess evidence about Energy
Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
