THE INTERNET IS THINKING
Earlier sources: Energy
Energy research and engineering concern how power is produced, stored, delivered, and consumed. Follow solar and nuclear power, fusion, geothermal systems, batteries, electricity grids, and changing power demand.
SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.
Open in the map ↗658 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. Recent momentum: steady. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.
Earlier sources
Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

AI-Accelerated Gyrokinetic Predictions of Turbulent Transport for Stellarator Design Optimization and Experimental Planning ↗
Previous work built AI-based surrogates for a nonlinear gyrokinetic simulation code with the goal of using them for fast, direct calculations of turbulent ion heat flux in stellarator design optimizations and scenario planning for experiments. These AI surrogates were trained on data from >200k nonlinear, adiabatic electron gyrokinetic simulations with the gyrokinetic flux-tube code GX, using a wide range of stellarator magnetic configurations ($\sim$23k), positions in the plasma, and gradient scale lengths. In this paper, we demonstrate the use of the AI-based turbulence surrogate in the opti…

Retrospective on the Design and Implementation of the Milestone-Based Fusion Development Program of the U.S. Department of Energy ↗
This paper provides a detailed account of the origins, objectives, design, and implementation of the Milestone-Based Fusion Development Program, a public-private-partnership (PPP) program launched by the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Science in September 2022. The purpose of this program is multi-faceted, with policy, scientific and technological (S&T), and commercialization objectives. Tactically, the program supports privately funded fusion companies in closing S&T gaps toward delivering preliminary engineering designs of their demonstration fusion plants (aka "fusion pilot plants").…

Simulation of a Battery Cell on Quantum Computers: Reactions & Transport ↗
Simulations of electrochemical materials and systems accelerate technological progress, but are still limited by computational power. In particular, quantum computing offers prospects for higher resolutions, due to the exponential amount of data that can be stored in a quantum state. As current quantum computers are still noisy, we consider a hybrid quantum-classical algorithm, that divides the problem into smaller computational tasks. We describe how to implement such an algorithm for non-linear partial differential equations, the Feynman-Kitaev Hamiltonian, in a scalable way for an electroch…

Nuclear Fusion Knowledge Graph Guided Edge-Localized Mode Recognition on EAST ↗
Edge-localized modes (ELMs) are transient magnetohydrodynamic instabilities commonly observed in tokamak plasmas. Although deep time-series models can learn complex dynamic patterns from multi-diagnostic signals, their predictions are mainly data-driven and lack explicit utilization of ELM physics, plasma operating states, and historical discharge experience. As a result, they may confuse categories with similar temporal patterns, particularly under severe class imbalance. To address this issue, we propose KGF-ELM, a Knowledge Graph Fusion Network for ELM Recognition, and introduce a Knowledge…

Fortifying fabric energy performance: embedding resilience in conventional new-build masonry housing using enhanced design targets ↗
Improving the thermal performance of new-build homes is central to many decarbonisation strategies, yet progress remains constrained by regulatory requirements, performance gaps, and entrenched construction practices. This study provides empirical evidence for a pragmatic, scalable pathway to fabric energy efficiency through the adoption of enhanced design targets (EDTs) within conventional masonry housebuilding. Working with a UK social housing provider, an EDT was developed through moderate adjustments to an existing housing design, ensuring compatibility with established supply chains and s…

Third-generation ultralong-term latent heat storage glass based on a sugar alcohol mixture ↗
Long-term thermal storage can decarbonize heat utilization by resolving mismatches between heat supply and demand. However, common heat storage materials cannot store energy for long periods. Here, we report an ultralong-term latent heat storage “glass” based on a ternary eutectic sugar alcohol mixture. The as-prepared material exhibits a solid–liquid phase change and glass transition at 423 and 289 K, respectively, with heat release via cold crystallization at 346 K. Remarkably, the glass transition temperature increases to 313 K after aging at ambient temperature for 12 hours due to structur…

Evaluating Domain-Aware Random Forests for Short-Term Photovoltaic Power Forecasting ↗
Data-driven machine learning (ML) models forecast photovoltaic (PV) power accurately, but the conventional Random Forest (RF) samples candidate predictors uniformly and therefore ignores established physical knowledge about how meteorological variables drive PV generation. This paper proposes the Domain-Aware Random Forest (DARF), a mechanism that converts expert structural knowledge into pre-training feature sampling priors. Expert PV knowledge is represented as a directed acyclic graph (DAG), the strength of each edge is estimated from training data using multivariate ridge regression (MVRR)…

Reliable Atom Probe Quantification of Carbon in Non-Stoichiometric TiCx: Effects of Laser Energy and Correction of Carbon Loss ↗
Accurate carbon quantification in TiCx by atom probe tomography (APT) is strongly affected by the evaporation of carbon-containing molecular ions, detector dead time and peak overlap. Here, APT mass spectra, hit multiplicity and correlation histograms acquired at 40–400 pJ were analyzed to characterize laser-energy-dependent evaporation. With increasing laser energy, carbon shifted toward C2+–C5+ molecular ions and Ti-C complexes, including TiC+, TiC2+–TiC5+ and Ti2C22+. The fraction of detected carbon carried by molecular ions increased from 47% to 98%, while the uncorrected C/Ti ratio decrea…

How to assess evidence about Energy
Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
