Earlier sources: Solar

This energy thread follows solar through original research, public projects, and source reports. Read the evidence below to see which developments are represented in SYMTRI’s archive.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

87 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

A Novel Data-Driven Approach Integrating DGCN and TILDE-Q for Ultra-Short-Term Photovoltaic Power Forecasting ↗

Accurate ultra-short-term photovoltaic (PV) power forecasting is essential for the reliable operation and energy management of PV systems. However, rapid irradiance variations and complex meteorological conditions result in highly intermittent, nonlinear, and nonstationary PV power generation. Existing forecasting methods generally focus on temporal dependencies but provide limited representation of the dynamic relationships among meteorological variables and PV power. Moreover, conventional point-wise loss functions do not explicitly preserve the temporal shape of multi-step forecasts. To add…

Nickel‐Free Perovskite Solar Cells Enabled by Self‐Assembled Monolayers: A Pathway to Efficient and Recyclable Devices ↗

ABSTRACT High efficiency inverted perovskite solar cells often rely on nickel‐containing hole‐selective interfaces such as NiOx. However, the use of nickel presents sustainability challenges, as the material is inherently toxic and cross‐contamination during end‐of‐life processing can compromise material recovery and recyclability. Here, we develop a nickel‐free hole‐selective interface material based on phenyl‐substituted phosphonic‐acid carbazole self‐assembled monolayers (Ph‐nPACz). Candidate molecules were identified through rational structure‐property screening of the substituents of the…

Triaryl Imidazoles as a Hole-Transporting Interfacial Modifying Layer for Inverted Perovskite Solar Cells ↗

Abstract The integration of hole-transporting organic interfacial modifying layers (OIMLs) into perovskite solar cells (PSCs) has attracted significant interest due to their ability to improve performance and stability. However, the development of cost-effective and straightforward methods for synthesizing OIMLs remains underexplored. In this work, we present the design and synthesis of two novel bromoaryl-substituted, imidazole-derived OIMLs: 2,4,5-tris(4-bromophenyl)-1H-imidazole (TPIM-Br) and 4,5-bis(4-bromophenyl)–2-(5-bromothiophen-2-yl)-1H-imidazole (DPIM-TBr). We investigated the therma…

Ultraviolet-induced degradation in TOPCon solar cells: Reversible (r-UVID) and irreversible (ir-UVID) degradation, mechanisms and mitigation strategies ↗

Currently, tunnel oxide passivated contact (TOPCon) solar cells are rapidly gaining market share due to their high efficiency and compatibility with existing manufacturing lines. However, ultraviolet-induced degradation (UVID) has emerged as a critical reliability concern that can cause significant power loss in these cells, especially in modules relying on hydrogen-rich front-side passivation stacks. In this paper, we refer to specific literature, briefly describe the development history of UVID, introduce the associated phenomena in crystalline silicon solar cells, and describe its character…

YOLOv9s-PILD: A Lightweight Photovoltaic Module Defect Detection Method Based on Grid-Structure Priors ↗

Detecting fine cracks and hot spots in photovoltaic modules is challenging due to their weak and small-scale features, which are easily obscured by regular background textures such as grid lines and cell boundaries. Consequently, general-purpose detection networks struggle to distinguish these defects, and their large model sizes hinder deployment on edge devices. To address these issues, this paper proposes YOLOv9s-PILD, a lightweight detection model built upon the YOLOv9s baseline. The proposed model incorporates three key innovations: a LiteNeck architecture to reduce redundancy in feature…

Mode-Selective Tip-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy Reveals Asymmetric Chemical and Carrier-Sensitive Raman Grading in Photovoltaic III–V Tandem Nanowire Junctions ↗

Abstract Performance of tandem junction nanowire (NW) solar cells relies on the electronic quality of the tunnel diodes which serve as the separating junctions between subcells. Yet, the relevant interfacial physics occurs below the optical diffraction limit. Here we use hyperspectral tip-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (TERS) to map, with nanoscale precision, axially defined heterojunctions in InP/InGaP tandem junction photovoltaic NWs. By resolving mode-specific phonon and phonon–plasmon responses, we show that the nominally abrupt p/p++ and p++/n++ junctions are compositionally graded. The TOM…

A Multi‐Domain System‐Level Framework for Floating Photovoltaic Systems With Comparative Analysis of Thermal Configurations ↗

A multi‐domain modeling framework for the performance simulation of floating photovoltaic (FPV) systems is presented. As an initial stage of this framework, the present study implements and couples only the thermal and electrical subsystems, evaluating four interchangeable configurations of varying fidelity; the implementation of the mechanical and hydrodynamic subsystems is deferred to future work. The coupled models were validated against meteorological and module temperature data from the Open Energy Data Initiative Orlando, Florida FPV dataset. Results demonstrate that increasing structura…

Side‐Chain Terminal Engineering Enables 18% Efficient Non‐Fused Ring Electron Acceptor Organic Solar Cells via Crystallization Control ↗

ABSTRACT Non‐fused ring electron acceptors (NFREAs) provide a low‐cost alternative to fused‐ring electron acceptors for organic solar cells (OSCs). Nevertheless, how terminal substituents on alkyl side chains modulate the crystallization behavior of NFREAs remains largely underexplored. Herein, two NFREAs, namely TTF‐F (fluorine‐terminated side chains) and TTO‐F (methoxy‐terminated side chains), were constructed with identical intramolecular conformational locks and terminal IC acceptor units. Although the two molecules possess nearly identical electronic structures, in situ UV–vis absorption…

Stepped phase change material cavities for enhanced thermal management of photovoltaic panels ↗

The stepped phase change material (PCM) cavity was investigated as a geometry-based passive thermal-management strategy for concentrated photovoltaic (CPV) modules. A two dimensional transient CPV-PCM conjugate heat transfer model was developed using the enthalpy-porosity method and the Boussinesq approximation. Four cavity orientations, obtained by combining the step-facing direction with upwardly expanding or upwardly narrowing cavity profiles, and three step widths of 4, 6, and 8 mm were compared with a flat cavity under an identical PCM cross-sectional area. Grid and time-step independence…

How to assess evidence about Solar

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
