Earlier sources: Nuclear

This energy thread follows nuclear through original research, public projects, and source reports. Read the evidence below to see which developments are represented in SYMTRI’s archive.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

59 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Higgsino dark matter compatible with the LUX-ZEPLIN high-energy nuclear-recoil event and IceCube constraints ↗

We examine Higgsino dark matter (DM) as a potential explanation of the $248~\mathrm{keV}$ nuclear-recoil event of interest reported by the LUX-ZEPLIN (LZ) experiment, taking into account IceCube constraints on DM annihilation in the Sun. In the nearly pure Higgsino limit, two neutral Majorana states separated by a small mass splitting $δ$ are connected by an off-diagonal coupling to the $Z$ boson, providing a natural realization of inelastic DM. Using a likelihood analysis, we identify 90\% confidence regions compatible with the LZ event and consistent with the null results of IceCube searches…

Pilot-scale investigation of a convective fixed-bed reactor for CaO/Ca(OH)2 thermochemical energy storage ↗

The CaO/Ca(OH) 2 system is considered as one of the most promising thermochemical energy storage systems due to its high energy storage density and low material cost. However, existing studies are mainly limited to numerical simulations or laboratory-scale reactors, while pilot-scale investigations remain scarce. In addition, the high decomposition temperature of Ca(OH) 2 aggravates material sintering and limits the utilization of low- and medium-temperature heat sources. In this study, a pilot-scale convective fixed-bed reactor capable of loading 334.14 kg of CaO is proposed. During the heat…

Repurposing gas power stations for modular nuclear and hydrogen systems: a techno-economic assessment ↗

In the UK, many fossil-fuel power stations are approaching retirement, yet these sites retain valuable brownfield assets, notably developed industrial land and high-capacity grid connections, and can be repurposed for low-carbon generation. Repurposing such sites for low-carbon generation could therefore offer three linked advantages: lower upfront capital requirements through reuse of grid connections and developed industrial land; shorter project delivery times by reducing permitting needs and avoiding lengthy grid-connection queues; and higher system value through the provision of dispatcha…

Is Your AI Fast Enough to Run a Fusion Reactor? ↗

Machine learning models are increasingly used in feedback control loops for nuclear fusion, where inference speed and predictable timing are critical. We summarize lessons from models deployed for control on the DIII-D tokamak and develop a benchmark to compare inference backends across ten neural networks and model components from fusion control and diagnostic pipelines. For models greater than five million parameters, the CPU backends take tens to thousands of milliseconds, while GPU inference is substantially faster, suggesting an upper limit on CPU-oriented development for control. These r…

A helical-flow geometric reinterpretation of classical electromagnetism with a phenomenological short-range nuclear extension ↗

This study develops a geometric helical-flow ansatz for interpreting classical electromagnetic fields and explores a separate phenomenological extension for short-range nuclear interactions. The model postulates a source-centered vector field whose integral curves contain radial and azimuthal components while the magnitude of the total local flow is constrained to the speed of light c. A dimensionless solid-angle variable Ω is used to introduce a geometric mass-capacity parameter mg = km/Ω and a charge mapping q = Kmq dmg/dτ = −KΩ(dΩ/dτ)/Ω2. We emphasize that these relations are postulates and…

Numerical study of functionally graded material models for evaluation of thermomechanical loading on nuclear fuel particles ↗

Functionally graded materials (FGMs) are well suited for analyzing the thermomechanical behavior of dispersed fuel particles under severe thermal and mechanical conditions, due to their capability to exhibit continuously varying properties in the radial direction. In this study, the primary focus is placed on the numerical analysis of an FGM hollow sphere subjected to thermal loading and internal pressure, as this configuration is more relevant to higher burnup conditions and the associated buildup of internal gas pressure. Within this framework, the radial distribution of material properties…

Off-design performance of a supercritical CO2 propulsion system for nuclear-powered merchant vessels under variable load and seawater temperature ↗

This study presents a preliminary analysis of the steady-state off-design performance of a nuclear-powered supercritical CO 2 (sCO 2 ) system, focusing on part-load operation, seawater temperature variations, and coordination strategies for a single-reactor dual-loop configuration. The results show significant differences in thermal efficiency among the seven operating strategies. Compressor shaft-speed control provides the highest efficiency among stand-alone strategies but is limited to 100%–50% full power of a loop (FP loop ). Inventory control maintains high efficiency over the full 100%–2…

Adaptive evolutionary PID controller using SHADE and L-SHADE for TRIGA mark-II reactor ↗

Abstract This paper proposes a trajectory-tracking PID (TTPID) controller optimized using Success-History Based Adaptive Differential Evolution (SHADE) and its improved variant Linear Population Size Reduction SHADE (L-SHADE) for power regulation of the ITU TRIGA Mark-II research reactor. The main novelty of the study is the integration of adaptive differential evolution mechanisms with a trajectory-tracking PID framework for nuclear reactor power control, which has not previously been reported in the literature. A constrained Integral of Time-Weighted Absolute Error (ITAE) objective function…

How to assess evidence about Nuclear

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
