Earlier sources: Battery Storage

This energy thread follows battery storage through original research, public projects, and source reports. Read the evidence below to see which developments are represented in SYMTRI’s archive.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

148 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Boosting Charge Storage in Ferri/Ferrocyanide‐Based Alkaline Redox Flow Batteries ↗

ABSTRACT The ferri/ferrocyanide redox couple has long served as a benchmark catholyte in aqueous redox flow batteries (RBFs), particularly under highly alkaline conditions. However, the limited alkaline solubilities of commercially available Na + and K + forms constrain the attainable energy density of these systems. Here, we demonstrate that Li + substitution substantially boosts the alkaline solubility of ferri/ferrocyanide, offering a promising route to overcome the long‐standing energy density limitation. Complementary spectroscopic and computational analyses reveal a distinct solubilizati…

Simulation of a Battery Cell on Quantum Computers: Reactions & Transport ↗

Simulations of electrochemical materials and systems accelerate technological progress, but are still limited by computational power. In particular, quantum computing offers prospects for higher resolutions, due to the exponential amount of data that can be stored in a quantum state. As current quantum computers are still noisy, we consider a hybrid quantum-classical algorithm, that divides the problem into smaller computational tasks. We describe how to implement such an algorithm for non-linear partial differential equations, the Feynman-Kitaev Hamiltonian, in a scalable way for an electroch…

Third-generation ultralong-term latent heat storage glass based on a sugar alcohol mixture ↗

Long-term thermal storage can decarbonize heat utilization by resolving mismatches between heat supply and demand. However, common heat storage materials cannot store energy for long periods. Here, we report an ultralong-term latent heat storage “glass” based on a ternary eutectic sugar alcohol mixture. The as-prepared material exhibits a solid–liquid phase change and glass transition at 423 and 289 K, respectively, with heat release via cold crystallization at 346 K. Remarkably, the glass transition temperature increases to 313 K after aging at ambient temperature for 12 hours due to structur…

Trip-End Battery State of Charge Prediction for Electric Vehicles Using a Physics-Constrained Machine Learning Stacking Ensemble ↗

This study proposes an approach for predicting the state of charge (SoC) of an electric vehicle battery at the end of an individual operational interval using parameters available before the start of the trip. The input features included the initial SoC, trip distance, and ambient temperature. The driving range estimated by the onboard system was also considered, as it summarizes information about the vehicle’s previous operating conditions. The direct target variable was the change in state of charge over the operational interval (Delta SoC), which was subsequently used to calculate the state…

Performance Analysis of a Novel Solar-Assisted Heat Pump Energy Supply System with Dual Energy Storage ↗

Given the significant decrease in the efficiency of air-source heat pumps (ASHPs) during winter and the intermittency and instability of solar heating output, which seriously affect the system performance, this paper presents a novel solar-assisted heat pump system with dual energy storage (DES-SAHP). The system is composed of a photovoltaic–thermal (PV/T) unit, an energy storage unit, and a heat pump unit. Mathematical models for the PV/T collector, energy storage, and heat pump units have been established. A comprehensive solution methodology, along with a MATLAB R2021a calculation program,…

Deep underground energy storage solutions for data centers driven by artificial intelligence energy consumption ↗

The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) has driven an unprecedented surge in electricity consumption by data centers (DCs). Although renewable energy and ground-based energy storage technologies are being widely adopted, they still face inherent limitations in scalability, safety, structure and stability. This review proposes deep underground energy storage (DUES) as a new approach and discusses three specific technologies: hydrogen storage, compressed air energy storage, and flow batteries. Firstly, it is found that DUES can align with AI load curves. The three technologies span…

Multi-Market Joint Optimization and Cooperative Benefit Allocation for Wind–PV–Thermal–Storage Aggregators Considering Battery Degradation Cost ↗

High penetrations of wind and photovoltaic (PV) generation increase renewable-output uncertainty, balancing-market exposure, and the demand for flexible ancillary services. This paper proposes a multi-market stochastic optimization and cooperative benefit-allocation framework for a wind–PV–thermal–storage aggregator considering BESS degradation cost. A price-taking three-stage offering model is formulated for participation in the energy, spinning-reserve, frequency-regulation, peak-shaving, and balancing markets, with non-anticipative offer-curve construction, thermal-unit commitment, BESS int…

Techno-economic evaluation of PV–vanadium redox flow battery systems for peak shaving in football stadiums under time-of-use tariffs ↗

This study presents a techno-economic evaluation of a grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) and vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB) system for peak shaving in a football stadium under time-of-use (TOU) tariffs with demand charges. Suphachalasai National Stadium in Thailand is used as a case study to investigate three operational strategies: (i) PV-only charging, (ii) grid-based off-peak charging, and (iii) hybrid PV–grid charging. Due to the temporal mismatch between daytime PV generation and evening stadium operation, a VRFB system is employed to enable energy shifting, peak shaving, and electricit…

Depletion-aware intelligence for solar–wind–battery systems: Machine learning pathways for robust sizing, safe dispatch, and battery health management ↗

Battery depletion limits the reliability of solar photovoltaic (PV)–wind–battery systems when renewable variability, converter dynamics and electrified loads reduce usable battery energy or reserve. Here, depletion denotes insufficient deliverable energy or reserve to satisfy load, reliability, ride-through or recovery requirements. State-of-charge (SOC)-floor violations and reserve exhaustion are direct signatures; unmet load is a consequence, whereas deep discharge, cycling and ageing are interacting drivers. Unlike reviews centred separately on state estimation, degradation, sizing or energ…

Fast method for assessing binder migration in lithium-ion battery electrodes using glow discharge-sector field-mass spectrometry ↗

A high amount of energy needed for the production of lithium-ion batteries is used for the drying and solvent recovery of N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) in electrodes with polyvinylidene fluoride-based binder (PVdF) systems. Therefore, controlling the amount of used solvent as well as developing efficient drying procedures is of major importance. Furthermore, the drying process and solid content of the electrode paste directly affect the battery performance due to the risk of transport of the binder towards the electrode surface. This work focuses on an analytical approach for rapidly and reliab…

How to assess evidence about Battery Storage

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
