THE INTERNET IS THINKING
Earlier sources: Language models
Language models learn patterns in text and other representations to predict or generate sequences. Follow model releases, training methods, reasoning, evaluation, and deployment research; a benchmark result is specific to its test conditions.
SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.
Open in the map ↗449 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.
Earlier sources
Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Back-Translation Still Matters: Leveraging Monolingual Data for Low-Resource Machine Translation with LLMs ↗
Pre-trained Large Language Model (LLMs) are effective on many tasks in zero-shot and few-shot settings. For machine translation of low-resource languages, the obvious options are few-shot prompting and fine-tuning on a small parallel set. We ask: what if moderate amounts of low-resource monolingual data are also available? We argue that, rather than continued pretraining, a more effective use of this data is the pre-LLM era technique of back-translation (BT). The current fine-tuned LLM translates monolingual sentences in each language, and the resulting pairs train it in the reverse direction.…

Bytes to Threats: Byte-Sequence Transformer For Malware Detection ↗
Existing malware detection approaches heavily rely on handcrafted features derived from static or dynamic analysis of the executable files. These methods require specialized domain expertise, dedicated analysis tools, and time-consuming analysis, which limits their scalability and robustness in the face of the increasing complexity and diversity of modern malware. Consequently, there is a growing interest in approaches that operate directly on raw bytes, which contain rich semantic and structural information. However, capturing long-range dependencies within executable files remains challengin…

SolBehave: Evaluating the Behavioural Correctness of LLM-Generated Smart Contracts ↗
Large language models increasingly generate Solidity smart contracts that, once deployed, can never be patched, making a single latent fault permanent and exploitable. Yet current evaluations mostly ask only whether generated code compiles. We introduce SolBehave, a benchmark for evaluating the correctness of model-generated contracts at scale, moving beyond ad hoc unit tests. Across 250 real, reproducible Ethereum contracts, we apply three complementary tests of behavioural fidelity: differential fuzzing, historical-transaction replay, and, as our core contribution, synthetic-transaction repl…

DTScribe: Generating Models for Digital Twin Reporting using Local Large Language Models ↗
The development of a digital twin brings together many stakeholders and technical components. We have previously investigated the reporting of the conceptual architecture for these digital twins as an artifact for discussion. However, we find that the activity of modeling the digital twin for visualization and consensus-building can be quite tedious and time-consuming. In this article, we explore the automation of model generation using large language models, targeting the model required for digital twin reporting. Our approach is designed to ingest digital twin documents and output both the c…

Launch HN: Consus (YC F24) – LLM gateway for companies handling sensitive data ↗
Hey Hacker News! I'm Eric, the founder of Consus. We route all AI requests to ITAR restricted and controlled unclassified information (CUI) compliant infrastructure. Consus itself satisfies ITAR restrictions, and we recently completed our FedRAMP equivalency audit against the 410 FedRAMP High controls. FedRAMP High is the U.S. government’s strictest security baseline for cloud services handling sensitive unclassified data. A breach of this data c…

Rethinking Quality in Large Language Model Routing: Security-Conditioned Model-and-Budget Selection ↗
Large language model (LLM) routers reduce serving cost by choosing which model to call and how many output tokens to grant it for each query. Existing routers rank model-budget actions using a single quality metric. This does not work for mixed workloads. For ordinary queries, a good answer is correct and useful (utility); for security-sensitive queries, a good answer refuses harmful requests or resists malicious instructions (security). These two objectives prefer different models and budgets. We propose SCRouter, a router that learns when to prioritize security and how to allocate the token…

How to assess evidence about Language models
Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
