THE INTERNET IS THINKING

Earlier sources: AI coding agents

AI coding agents use models and development tools to inspect, modify, and test software. Follow coding workflows, repository tooling, evaluations, and evidence about where these systems succeed or fail.

SYMTRI organizes observations from public sources into a living map. Connections reflect shared subject matter; they do not establish causation or endorse a source.

87 classified signals in the fourteen-day window. These counts include signals awaiting readable evidence.

Earlier sources

Up to ten sources with readable evidence, ordered by their feed timestamp. These archive sources can be older than the live fourteen-day window. This list is a sample, not a measure of total activity. Dates distinguish paper publication, repository creation, model/dataset activity, Hacker News posts, and KEV catalog additions. “First archived” records when SYMTRI first stored the signal.

Learning When and How to Intervene: A Hindsight-Distilled Sentinel for Coding Agents ↗

Coding agents solve repository-level tasks through sequences of actions, where a single erroneous action can misdirect subsequent decisions and increase recovery costs. Existing approaches use execution feedback for recovery or specialized checks to block errors, but deciding before execution whether intervention will benefit eventual task completion remains challenging. To address this challenge, we propose HiSentinel, a hindsight-distillation framework that trains lightweight 0.6B and 1.7B sentinels to select pre-execution interventions aimed at improving task completion rather than correcti…

From Verification Failures to Reusable Guidance for Coding Agents ↗

Coding agents need to establish that a program satisfies a specification and that the specification captures the requested behavior. We study how expert diagnosis of verification failures can become reusable guidance for this work. Our approach combines executable language definitions in the K framework with a kit of procedures for constructing specifications, repairing proofs, and auditing their adequacy. A human-guided development campaign on HumanEval, a benchmark of 164 Python programming tasks, achieves a 164/164 success rate with the semantics and the kit, measured by final AI audit Pass…

Approval Laundering: Systematizing Approval--Execution Binding Failures in AI Coding-Agent Harnesses ↗

Modern AI coding-agent harnesses (Claude Code, Codex CLI, Cursor) rest their security boundary on a largely unexamined assumption: that the action A a human approves is the same action A' the harness executes, where A is fixed by a stated policy for what a scope grant or session-scoped approval authorizes. We show this assumption fails systematically and reproducibly. We introduce Approval Laundering, a taxonomy of six failure modes by which a harness's enforcement mechanism silently substitutes A' for A after approval: Scope, Argument, Temporal, Tool, Delegation, and Semantic laundering. Unli…

Ask HN: How do you handle hitting AI coding agent usage limits? ↗

One topic I've been researching lately is the best way to handle switching to another agent when I hit a usage limit on one of them. For example, if I hit the usage limit on Codex, I would want to switch to Claude Code and vice versa. The important part is not losing the ongoing context/task(s) when switching between the tools.. I have found a few things that say they do this but none seem to have much traction. As a result, I was hoping to pick…

Show HN: Relay – a harness for AI coding agents that recover and verify ↗

I'm tired of AI coding agents which are good for 30 seconds and then completely fail on the slightest hiccup: a failing test, a temporarily unavailable dependency, an incorrect assumption. Sometimes I end up having to babysit these agents anyway. Relay is a harness for coding agents which takes advantage of the fact that agents are often good at doing something slightly wrong, and not so good at doing something correctly and completely. Relay rep…

Merged, Not Measured: An Empirical Study of Performance Issues Fixed by Coding Agents ↗

Coding agents open pull requests (PRs) that claim to speed up software, but studies of human performance fixes say little about how maintainers respond to such a fix or whether its claim holds. From the 71,677 agent PRs of AIDev v4, a text filter and codebook coding by language models and by the authors select 1,262 performance issues fixed by six agents in 582 repositories. We code each issue and its tests and re-execute 23 rejected and 30 merged fixes. (1) 57% of closed fixes are merged, 61% of rejections give no stated reason, and only 6 of the 23 re-executed rejected claims held under our…

Show HN: SideKernel – a usable MicroVM sandbox for AI coding agents on macOS ↗

Hey everyone, SideKernel is the result of my capstone project for my MSc at Georgia Tech. There are a lot of sandboxes on the market right now for AI agents, but most of them focus on production deployments, rather than coding agents (e.g. Claude Code). I always felt uncomfortable running Claude Code or other coding agents directly on my machine, and I didn't want to buy a second computer or rent a VPS just for that. That's why I made SideKernel:…

How to assess evidence about AI coding agents

Check each original source for its methods, release status, limitations, and supporting data. A repository announcement, a preprint, and a published study provide different kinds of evidence. SYMTRI’s subject classification helps discovery; it does not independently validate the source’s claims.
